VP Loan Syndicate Project and Asset-Based Finance EMEA

We are looking for a new colleague in an open and dynamic team which operates in an international environment.

The team

The Loan Distribution Group (LDG) is a core pillar of Capital Markets & Advisory (CMA) and a key driver of INGs Capital Velocity strategy. LDG has presence in Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Brussels, Milan, Madrid, New York, Singapore, Sydney and Hong Kong with c. 100 FTEs.

For many years, ING is a lead bank in the global market for Project & Asset Based Finance, particularly in EMEA, by supporting its clients in complex and highly structured financing solutions. ING frequently acts as Lead Coordinator or Underwriter on large and complex transactions across sectors including infrastructure, transport, energy and digital infra.

As one of the leading players in the EMEA P&ABF market, we are in the drivers seat of the syndication process. You will be a member of a successful and highly energetic team, working in a dynamic environment with interesting clients and will act on challenging and prominent lead mandates. The role is highly front-office and market-facing, with direct interaction with clients, institutional investors and banks

The complexity of the assignments and the international nature of your work will lead to ongoing opportunities for professional development. As part of our team, you will play a key role in managing syndicated financings on behalf of our clients, and function as an internal expert regarding market intelligence that will help us retain our strong market position across multiple sectors.  You will work together closely with amongst others our colleagues in Loan Sales, CPRI and other ING Wholesale Banking departments such as Sectors, Lending, D&CA, FM, Risk Management and Legal.

We are looking for a Vice President to join our EMEA Project and Asset Based Finance team that is based in Amsterdam (currently 6 FTE).

Role and responsibilities

You will play an active role in the origination, structuring, underwriting and execution of syndicated P&ABF loan transactions in EMEA.

Client and transaction coordination:

  • Contribute to the origination, structuring and negotiation of syndicated loans.
  • Support in giving our clients the best customer experience possible
  • Together with the Loan Sales team, you identify and maintain relationships with financial institutions and ensure a smooth distribution of transactions;
  • Actively track and interpret loan market dynamics, translate this into relevant market updates and take responsibility for up-to-date (investor) intelligence;

Transaction execution:

  • You prepare Loan Syndicate advices supporting the primary sale of syndicated loans; including loan market analysis, opinion on credit structures, bank appetite, sell-down strategy and pricing.
  • Take ownership of key workstreams in the execution of syndicated loans, such as negotiation of terms and conditions (term sheets, mandate letters, long form documentation etc.), preparation of syndication materials, Q&A with banks and maintaining an active dialogue with other loan investors;
  • Together with the Loan Sales team, you organize (virtual) bank meetings to generate demand for deals coordinated and/or underwritten by ING.
  • Support and progressively take ownership of the execution and closing of syndicated loan transactions;

Portfolio management:

  • Take responsibility for market intelligence materials
  • Contribute to platform innovations to make Loan Syndicate team future proof;

We are looking for a new colleague who combines strong technical execution skills with a commercial mindset and an interest in client and investor dynamics, i.e.:

  • You have c. 5-8 years relevant experience with originating and structuring syndicated loans, preferably gained in a sector coverage team, in a comparable loan syndications function or in a relevant lending focused team;
  • You can systematically analyze and solve problems;
  • You have the ability to handle particulars of the origination, execution, documentation and closing of syndicated loan transactions;
  • You have high quality standards, attention to detail and a clear customer and market focus;
  • You are self-aware and are able to work under tight deadlines and significant pressure as an individual and as part of the team;
  • Good structuring, credit and negotiation skills;
  • You are an effective coach towards junior workforce and monitor quality and accuracy of their output; 
  • Be able to multitask, plan ahead and prioritise competing demands on time;
  • Fluency in verbal and written English and strong proficiency in Microsoft tools;
