Job Description:

Whats the role

The Metering Engineer is responsible for the surveillance, assurance, and regulatory compliance of the metering discipline across operated assets. The role ensures accuracy and reliability of hydrocarbon allocation by maintaining the health and integrity of the metering systems. This position acts as the owner of the Shells Metering Management Systems and is a key contributor to maintaining the assets License to Operate.


The Metering Engineer interfaces with Operations, Subsea, Operation & Maintenance contractors, vendors, and regulatory team, while also supporting other internal and external projects.

Accountabilities:

Metering Surveillance & Technical Monitoring

  • Execute daily Proactive Technical Monitoring (PTM) for metering systems and ensure Daily Production meeting coverage.

  • Identify deviations, assess system threats and opportunities, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Support and improve reconciliation factors to ensure accurate allocation.

Regulatory Compliance & Assurance

  • Ensure full compliance with Brazilian metering regulations and internal standards.

  • Lead and support internal and external audits, and assurance activities

  • Prepare and submit all regulatory documentation (e.g., multiphase flowmeters plans, meter failures notifications, multiphase flowmeters performance and commissioning reports).

  • Monitor regulatory updates and engage stakeholders to ensure compliance.

Metering System Governance

  • Maintain and update the Shell Metering Management Systems.

  • Oversee calibrations are following regulatory requirements and ensure proper documentation control and traceability.

  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of Topsides and Subsea metering systems is executed effectively.

Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Lead MPFM configuration updates, troubleshooting, and related documentation.

  • Provide engineering support to Operations, Subsea, and reporting teams, including mass balance and allocation queries.

  • Advise on flowmeter technologies and metering system configurations.

Contractor & Vendor Management

  • Act as Contract Holder for metering-related contracts and ensure contractor performance.

  • Collaborate with vendors to enhance troubleshooting, maintenance quality, and system reliability.

Cross-Project Support & Consulting

  • Provide metering expertise to other projects and new developments as a consultant.

  • Support the preparation and review of allocation philosophies, sampling plans, performance verification plans, and commissioning plans.

  • Evaluate certification needs and provide regulatory guidance to project teams.

  • Participate in cadence meetings for topsides and subsea scopes to ensure alignment across assets.

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering

  • At least 3 years of experience in operations, preferably in metering, production systems, or subsurface/surface engineering

  • Active CREA certification is required

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work with large datasets.

  • Solid understanding of hydrocarbon allocation, metering systems, and regulatory requirements is highly desirable

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and interface across disciplines

  • Experience with contractors, vendors, and audits is highly desirable

  • Fluent in Portuguese and English
