Full Job Description

The LSEG Oil Research team provides market insight and analysis and to clients interested in the crude oil, refined products and petrochemicals sectors through assessment of global supply and demand, trade flows, infrastructure outages, derivatives markets and other trade-relevant activities.

We are currently seeking a Senior Research Specialist, with market or industry knowledge of Crude and Fuel Oil. The role is based in Singapore with a focus on the Asian markets, though knowledge of market dynamics across other regions or at the global level is desirable.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic Research team to develop new methodologies, quantitative models and analysis that directly create client impact.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Conducts primary and secondary research on Crude and Fuel Oil markets, delivering written and quantitative analysis and collaborating on supply and demand models.
  • Serves as a key member of the global Crude and Fuel Oil Product teams and the broader regional Oil and Commodities Research teams, supporting others where needed.
  • Encouraged to build positive relationships both inside the company and with customers, to understand their drivers and deliver positive outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a network of local and international market players to provide insight and improve our products.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree equivalent knowledge of Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Data Science, Engineering or Petroleum studies from a reputable university. A Masters or technical specialization / certification would be an advantage.
  • Very strong experience of at least 8-10 years in the physical crude and product markets or a research house, either as a trader or analyst, with strong understanding of market fundamentals and the oil and gas value chain. Candidates with experience in the Refining or Petrochemical sectors are also encouraged to apply.
  • Collaborative and flexible approach to delivering value-additive outcomes for clients.
  • Understanding of financial markets, and their impact on the oil industry.
  • Network of physical trading contacts in Asia and, potentially, other regions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively convey information at various levels within the organization, as well as external clients.
  • Experience building global supply and demand models, either as part of a Research advisory organization or for an oil company, is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is a must. Knowledge of Python and data analytics techniques is a strong advantage, as is advanced knowledge of PowerBI.
  • Strong time management skills for balancing multiple tasks simultaneously, while completing work within allocated timeframes.
  • Good critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
