Lead Credit Officer Manager - The purpose of this position is to facilitate responsible business loan portfolio growth and protect the bank from loss while maintaining acceptable asset quality. The manager leads a high-performing credit risk team responsible for evaluating credit applications, supporting portfolio risk management activities, identifying key risks, recommending credit actions, and ensuring high-quality execution within business, policy, and audit requirements.

    Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing credit risk team, ensuring effective day-to-day execution, consistent quality of credit work, and continued development of credit judgment.
    Provide oversight on credit applications, portfolio risk management activities, and transaction-level analysis to ensure recommendations are supported by sound analysis, objective views, and clear identification of key risks.
    Guide the team in independently analyzing, or partnering with more senior credit professionals where appropriate, to evaluate the risk of adding transactions to the bank loan portfolio.
    Identify and guide additional information requirements needed to properly assess transaction risks, customer business models, long-term viability, and continued credit worthiness of borrowers.
    Review and assess the financial strength and soundness of customers, including timely identification and escalation of key risks, early warning indicators, and potential red flags across the assigned portfolio.
    Consider and guide alternative credit structures to mitigate risk where appropriate, while ensuring credit facilities presented are properly graded and recommendations are well supported.
    Ensure assigned timelines are met and documentation requirements are completed in line with business, policy, Risk Guidelines, and audit expectations.
    Maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders and act as a trusted credit partner by providing timely, thoughtful, and well-reasoned credit perspectives.
    Lead and independently drive business-critical projects, strategic initiatives, and process improvement efforts that improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, quality, and stakeholder delivery.
    Identify process inefficiencies, partner with relevant teams to resolve issues, and support a culture of continuous improvement, ownership, accountability, and disciplined execution.
    Encourage critical thinking and problem solving across the team, including the ability to challenge assumptions, gain new insights, think outside the box, and improve delivery of services to stakeholders.
    Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment where team members across the credit risk organization are empowered to take ownership, build expertise, and deliver consistent results.
 

Minimum Skills, Experience and Qualifications

    10 plus years of experience as a credit underwriter, credit officer, portfolio risk professional, or in a similar position requiring strong business knowledge and credit judgment.
    Postgraduate degree or advanced degree in business management, finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
    Strong knowledge of credit philosophy, Risk Guidelines and policies, loan documentation, bankruptcy, and related legal issues.
    Ability to formulate and articulate objective views based on professional analysis.
    Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills.
    Good organization skills and ability to work within time constraints in a highly regulated industry.
    Proven ability to manage priorities, coach team members, drive accountability, and influence stakeholders across credit and business teams.
    Works effectively in a team environment while assuming ownership and helping develop junior team members.
