About the role

The Credit Risk function assesses, approves, and manages credit and counterparty risk across industries, clients, geographies, and transactions. As a Credit Risk Associate, you will manage credit exposures through rigorous analysis, clear credit recommendations, and close partnership with coverage and product teamswhile operating with independence consistent with Corporate Risk Management.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Drive credit due diligence and perform in-depth credit risk assessments, including business, industry, and financial analysis.
  • Produce high-quality credit memorandums and ad-hoc credit materials with clear, well-supported recommendations for credit decisioning.
  • Build, maintain, and challenge financial models; review key assumptions, identify sensitivities, and develop downside scenarios.
  • Identify key transaction risks and recommend appropriate structural protections and risk mitigants.
  • Support transaction execution and internal system set-up as required.
  • Proactively manage credit exposure for an assigned portfolio of clients/industries, ensuring compliance with internal risk policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders at senior levels across Coverage and product teams (e.g., DCM, Leveraged Finance, Trade, TSS), Markets (e.g., derivatives sales), and Capital Markets / M&A.
  • Liaise regularly with Senior Credit Officers on approvals, monitoring, and portfolio actions.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant client/industry trends and emerging risks.
  • Contribute to broader projects and initiatives; coach and support the development of junior team members where applicable.

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 23+ years of experience in roles with relevant skills for this position.
  • Strong credit judgment and analytical skills with a hands-on approach to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to synthesize complex concepts into clear recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility and partner effectively with internal business stakeholders and credit officers.
  • Strong project management skills with end-to-end ownership and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or related area (advanced degree a plus).

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Familiarity with loan and derivative documentation (e.g., LMA-based loan documents; ISDA/CSA) and ability to assess key terms and transaction structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop junior colleagues.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong networking and stakeholder-management skills.
