Overall function

Head of Compliance (HoC) leads the Local Compliance department and engages support from Regional Compliance to ensure the organisation remains compliant with all relevant legislation and regulations by embedding sound Compliance Risk Management practices throughout the organisation.  You manage Compliance risks and act as a navigator for the bank by leading interpretation of rules and regulations and subsequent translation of these to the company level, oversee guidance to the organisation on compliance issues. You build and maintain relationships with regulators. You are mandated to set requirements and take decisions on processes, products, and new initiatives.

You will hierarchically report into the local Branch Manager and functionally into the Regional Head of Compliance (Asia).

Key responsibilities

  • Translate the organisations Compliance risk appetite to principles and objectives for functions or product categories, developing frameworks for risk management procedures and challenge risk management execution at your local organisation, with right to veto business decisions if necessary.
  • Provide authoritative compliance specialist advice to senior managers at your local organisation to enable the implementation of policy, projects and change initiatives.
  • Manage stakeholders up to management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of information and decisions.
  • Challenge business initiatives and processes, having a deep understanding of the business processes and ensuring prompt identification of material compliance deficiencies/issues.
  • Ensure no surprises by effectively and pro-actively informing/reporting and responding to queries and concerns from the regulators, MBB, SB and other stakeholders.
  • Set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary (where applicable)
  • Drive the compliance culture throughout the local organisation.
  • Build and maintain relationships internally and with local authorities.
  • Act as the local Whistle blower Reporting Officer
  • Act as the local Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and monitor FEC/CDD related events
  • Support the management of Personal Data protection risk by challenging and monitoring activities on the implementation and maintenance of Global Personal Data Protection Policy (GPDP), act as the local Data Protection Officer
  • Act as the Chief Consumer Officer, the Chief Privacy Officer and the Credit Information Protection Officer under the local laws and regulations

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher, preferably in Law, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial institutions, ideally within compliance or risk functions
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and assess risks
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
  • Expertise in interpreting and applying FISCMA, other applicable laws and regulations in Korea
  • Strong ability to collaborate and align effectively with regional and global compliance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with relevant stakeholders
  • Fluency in both English and Korean (written and spoken)
