ING is looking for an enthusiastic Chapter Lead Data Management, to guide the existing team of motivated professionals through the challenges ahead.

As Chapter Lead Data Management (with focus on Commercial Data), you are responsible for leading and developing a chapter of data engineering professionals within ING. You set the standards, technical direction and ways of working for Data Management and are able to communicate well on choices to be made, engage your team for execution, while fostering craftsmanship, innovation and personal growth.


You combine people leadership with technical/ data management capabilities, ensuring reliable, compliant and scalable data solutions that directly support INGs business ambitions.


You report to the IT Area Lead Data Management & Personalization and work closely with Product Leads, Architects and other Chapter Leads across the Data & Analytics landscape.


The team
The Data Management chapter consists of engineers working on data platforms, pipelines and foundational data capabilities that support multiple business domains with focus on Commercial (customer) Data. The chapter plays a crucial role in ensuring data is trusted, accessible and compliant by design.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead a chapter of data professionals, focusing on people development, performance and engagement
  • Perform annual Step Up Performance management cycle with your chapter members (target setting, mid/end year evaluations)
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in data management practices
  • Own capability growth: skills, knowledge sharing, learning paths and succession
  • Set standards for developing, innovating and safeguarding craftsmanship/ knowledge in the field of expertise
  • Balance chapter excellence with delivery needs in close alignment with business and product stakeholders
  • Attract and retain top talent to strengthen and sustain the teams capabilities.
  • Drive team happiness and manager HR activities.

  • Proven experience (5+ years) as people leader in a complex IT environment
  • Experience in data structuring/processing and modelling is a plus (e.g. R, Python, SAS, COGNOS, DataStage, Cloud technologies, DBT)
  • Solid understanding of design patterns, development principles, and engineering best practices
  • Experience in Agile way of working
  • Passion for people leadership, coaching and talent development
  • Comfortable providing continuous feedback to your chapter, listening and investing in others.
  • Comfortable operating in a large, regulated organisation
  • Able to connect strategy, architecture and execution
  • Clear communicator and trusted sparring partner for senior stakeholders.
