What does the TRM Team do in ING?

We offer different internship opportunities in different departments and locations of our Wholesale bank. This vacancy focusses on positions within the TRM department.

The Trading Risk Management (TRM) team plays a critical role in safeguarding the banks financial health by identifying, measuring, monitoring, and controlling exposure to market-driven risks. The department works across asset classes and business lines to ensure that trading (Financial Markets) and banking books remain within the banks risk appetite and regulatory boundaries.

What would you be doing?

TRM oversees and supports both Financial Markets (FM) desks - such as Rates, FX, Credits, Commodities and Non-Linear Trading etc. - and Group Treasury (GT), which is primarily responsible for managing asset and liability management requirements, funding and liquidity needs, interest rate risks, and investment risks in the banking books.

The internship will involve exposure to the following areas across either the FM or GT/ALM desk:

  • Gaining an understanding of the desks business and how the risk framework is designed to govern and control its activities

  • Assisting with daily risk reporting and monitoring of key market risk metrics such as Value-at-Risk (VaR), sensitivities in trading books, or interest rate risk, liquidity risk and FX exposures in banking books

  • Assisting with the preparation of management and regulatory reports covering Trading risk or Treasury/ALM risk

  • Tracking macroeconomic events and market movements that may impact risk positions

  • Supporting system and process enhancement initiatives

  • Assisting the team in specific risk analyses as required

What qualities, skills and other criteria are we looking for?

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with attention to detail

  • Demonstrates strong interest in understanding how banks manage financial risks

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Proficient in Excel; some VBA coding/programming knowledge is a plus

What would you gain from this internship?

Interns leave with a broad understanding of how a banks Market Risk department is set up and operates. He/She/They will have exposure to all asset classes across Treasury and FM Trading, and a clearer understanding of the jobs done on these desks, and potential future career options.
