Transaction Banking - Global Trade Solutions - Off-Cycle Internship
London, GB, E14 5HQ
Area of Interest: Transaction Banking
Business Area: Corporate and Institutional Banking
About the business area
Corporate and Institutional Banking helps some of the worlds largest companies grow and succeed by offering investment and financial solutions. Working across markets, sectors and borders, youll help deliver the insight, connectivity and support that enable clients to navigate change and unlock new opportunities
Global Trade Solutions connects the world through trade. Our footprint gives clients access to over 80 per cent of world trade flows providing a powerful mixture of local, regional, and global knowledge to help them spot new opportunities. We provide a safer, smoother digital trade experience. We help clients solve business challenges through innovative solutions and strategic partners, and we bring them insights and ideas to enable them to grow and protect their businesses.
Who you are
Youre curious, motivated and interested in how global trade works in practice. You dont need to know transaction banking inside out yet what matters is your integrity, your drive to learn and your willingness to take ownership. You could be a great fit if you enjoy working with others, communicating clearly and building trusted relationships. Youre proactive, organised and comfortable spotting issues before they become bigger problems. Youre also interested in how businesses move goods, manage risk and operate across borders. If you want to understand the detail behind international trade while building practical skills in a global environment, this could be a strong fit.
What you'll do
Youll work with teams that help clients trade internationally by providing working capital and risk management solutions. You could support activity across trade cycles, payments, documentation and risk, and see how deals move from idea through to execution. Your work might include helping with Letters of Credit, maintaining records, tracking trade transactions and currency movements, analysing data in Excel, and supporting reports or pitch materials. Youll also work with colleagues involved in compliance and controls, carrying out checks such as sanctions screening and anti-money laundering reviews. Its practical work with exposure to both the detail and the bigger picture of global trade.
What you'll learn
Youll build the technical knowledge, practical understanding and professional skills needed to understand transaction banking with confidence. Through structured training and hands-on learning, youll deepen your understanding of trade cycles, compliance requirements, stakeholder engagement and how Sales and Product teams support clients in different ways. Youll also strengthen your awareness of anti-money laundering, sanctions and trade law, so you can see how global trade is supported responsibly. Working with colleagues across business areas will help you build a broader view of how the bank fits together. By the end of the internship, youll have a stronger foundation in Global Trade Solutions and a clearer sense of how your skills could grow in this space.
Where you'll work
Youll work in Global Trade Solutions within Corporate and Institutional Banking, alongside teams that support clients trading across borders. Its a collaborative environment where product, operations, client coverage and risk teams work together to keep trade moving smoothly. Youll be part of a professional office culture that values teamwork, accuracy and commercial awareness. Expect exposure to an international banking environment where different functions connect closely and where detail matters.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must:
- Be available to work full time from March 2027 onwards
- Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a 2:1 degree classification or higher, or an overseas equivalent
- Be fluent in English
- Have completed studies, or will have complete them by the end of March 2027
- We will consider candidates that require visa sponsorship for this role
We only accept one application per recruitment cycle so please take time to explore our opportunities before applying as we may not be able to transfer your application to other vacancies.
