The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Mine Engineer to join our Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

The position will be based in Onaping, Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a full-time, permanent staff position.

Range of Pay: $143,689 to $160,593 (includes annual variable compensation bonus)

This position is being posted to fill an existing vacancy.

Work location is not accessible by public transportation.

Duties and Accountabilities

Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, the Senior Mine Engineer (SME) is accountable for the coordination and delivery of a significant portion of mine engineering services, as delegated by the Chief Mine Engineer. The SME is responsible to ensure that the engineering services provided are of high professional standard, meet all appropriate health, safety and environmental regulations and meet the goals of the organization.

The incumbent will act as designate to the Chief Mine Engineer in their absence and lead a significant portion of the annual site budget process and long-term business planning.

The SME is accountable for ensuring that technical systems, processes and standards at the mine are consistent with Sudbury INO best practices and follow the Mine Design and Engineering Guidelines documents. This will be achieved through a strong working relationship with technical personnel at all Sudbury INO underground operations.

The SME must ensure that processes are in place and followed to engage the operations personnel in the plans and technical issues so that there is joint ownership and shared understanding of the business plan.

About You

Your personal commitment to health, safety, training, and continuous improvement will be the key to your growth in this role. 

Education and Skills

The incumbent requires a professional engineer registered in the Province of Ontario who has a minimum of 10 years of experience in mine engineering, mine design and preferably some experience in mine operations and/or management of projects.

Strong leadership and communication skills are a must as are initiative and a progressive change attitude.

May supervise up to seven technical employees and integrates the work of many more.  

Has significant influence on a mine budget of $5 million to $25 million and significant impact on the long-term viability of the mine.

The incumbent has the authority to make professional engineering decisions on an independent basis and should feel free to resist pressures to change plans or designs (with appropriate explanations) if it compromises professional requirements.
