Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for our finance team in Hong Kong.

About the role

In this role, you can expect to get involved in a variety of work including:

  • Accounts Payable (Daily)

  • Review, verify, and post accounts payable vouchers in a timely and accurate manner

  • Prepare and process HSBCnet payments and issue cheques
  • Review, post, and reconcile bank charges
  • Process and post all payments including staff reimbursements for client/matter; Facilities team reimbursement claims for office
  • Prepare and post Partners drawings and distributions
  • Contact new vendors to verify bank account details and add new vendor/payee ID in 3E
  • Accounts Receivable & Billing

  • Manage accounts receivable for staff and vendor refunds, and ICB receipts
  • Generate ad hoc proforma invoices as requested
  • Post accounts receivable transactions during team absences to ensure continuity of billing operations
  • Client Accounts

  • Review and record monthly client account interest in tracking spreadsheets
  • Handle client account payments and receipts during team absences, ensuring compliance and accuracy
  • Cash Management

  • Review daily bank balances across office and client accounts
  • Prepare cashflow forecast summaries for management review
  • Arrange internal funding transfers as required to support operations
  • Petty Cash

  • Review, input, and maintain petty cash vouchers
  • Reimburse staff petty cash claims
  • Prepare monthly petty cash summaries and arrange cash withdrawals to replenish petty cash balances
  • Company Search Administration

  • Review Companies Registry search credit pool usage
  • Arrange timely topups to ensure uninterrupted access
  • MonthEnd Responsibilities

  • Review and clear intercompany uncleared entries; process adjustments where necessary and liaise with the Credit Controller in the UK
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for both client and office accounts
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including petty cash, accounts payable, and lease balances
  • Post intercompany fee reclassification journals
  • Maintain and update prepayment and accrual schedules
  • Monthly office fixed asset registers
  • Prepare quarterly CMNO management report for the Managing Partner
  • Audit & Tax Support

  • Prepare supporting schedules and summaries in response to auditor and tax queries
  • Ad Hoc & Operational Support

  • Handle ad hoc finance requests from Secretaries, Partners, and Finance management.
  • Handle missing timesheet for Associates / Interns
  • Provide operational and accounting cover during team absences to ensure business continuity.

Previous experience

  • Working as part of a financial accounting team
  • At least five years experience in a similar position, ideally within a law firm.

Professional/Educational Qualification

  • Graduate level education.
  • A relevant professional accountancy qualification (SOCPA, CA, ACA, ACCA)
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (minimum of Excel and Word)

Skills & Experience required

  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate at all levels.
  • Confident professional manner
  • Strong analytical skills, excel skills and ideally 3E experience.
  • Grasps, retains and analyses complex information and concepts, great attention to detail.
  • Deliver high quality, risk aware, pragmatic and practical advice in client friendly, jargon free language (oral and written).
  • Has an excellent understanding of best use of IT and other support functions to enhance advice and services, both within the firm and externally to clients.
  • Ability to show initiative and good judgment, functioning well under pressure, able to switch gears on a moments notice and ability to concentrate in an environment of multiple demands and distractions.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and perform accurately under time pressures and constraints.
