Job Overview

Citi Global Markets Japan (CGMJ) is seeking a qualified candidate to join its Equity Middle Office organization. This role is focused on performing middle office functions for the Prime Finance, Securities Lending team.

The team provides essential client services and trade support for Japanese securities borrowing and lending activities executed by the front office. We are looking for a candidate with experience in the financial industry and a collaborative mindset, complemented by strong communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues, stakeholders, and external clients.

This position is responsible for the middle office functions of securities lending. It requires close liaison with the Front Office, IT, Finance, and Back Office to ensure trades are processed correctly downstream and settled with external clients. The role involves close collaboration with stakeholders in Japan as well as with APAC regional colleagues.

The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in various internal projects, including the implementation and support of automation, business initiatives, and system enhancements, in line with their experience and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Exposure Management: Agree upon and process FOP/DVP collateral amounts with external counterparties and intercompany entities.
  • Tri-party Management: Monitor exposure at Tri-party agents and book non-cash collateral.
  • Trade Confirmation: Send trade confirmations and monitor JASDEC DVP pre-matching.
  • Billing: Agree upon monthly billing amounts with external counterparties and ensure timely settlement.
  • Trade Reconciliations: Reconcile stock and cash breaks across multiple systems and drive their resolution.
  • Fail Coverage: Communicate closely with the settlement team, Hong Kong middle office, and front office regarding fail cover names. Agree upon and process T+0 payments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of market rules and regulations to ensure compliance. Implement and maintain robust controls for all daily functions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work effectively with teams and colleagues within and outside of Japan, including business and support functions, to provide a high standard of support to the business and its clients.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency.
  • Query Handling: Address and resolve queries from clients, the front office, and other departments, including ad-hoc inquiries.
  • Project Involvement: Participate in system enhancements and projects, serving as a subject matter expert.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in financial industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in both English and Japanese.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities, with the flexibility to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to perform routine tasks with accuracy.
  • A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and resolving team queries. Demonstrates a willingness to ask clarifying questions and engage in new initiatives.
  • JSDA Class 1 Sales Representative Qualification preferred.

Education

  • A Bachelor's Degree, University Degree, or equivalent experience in Business, Accounting, or Finance.
