About Vanguard

More than 50 years ago, John C. Bogle had a vision to start an investment company that did things differently. A company with no external shareholders. Where all the profits were invested back into the business and used to lower costs. Evidently, it was as bold as it was brilliant. To this day, Vanguard Group still has no external shareholders. That means no share prices to protect, and no profits to generate for outside owners.

Today, Vanguard is one of the worlds largest investment management companies, serving more than 50 million investors worldwide. For more than 25 years Vanguard Australia has been supporting individual investors, financial advisers, and superannuation members to achieve their long-term financial goals.

Our Team & Opportunity

As part of the Office of the Superannuation Trustee, this role will participate in various trustee governance activities, including the oversight and monitoring of service providers for the Trustee (Vanguard Super Pty Ltd).

The role reports to the Head of the Office of the Superannuation Trustee, works closely with the Senior Manager, Risk & Compliance, and collaborates with key contacts of related party service providers across a comprehensive range of services for Vanguard Super.

What you will do

  • Analyse management and Board reporting provided by related and third-party service providers;
  • Develop and review Trustee policies and procedures and make amendments and recommendations;
  • Manage relationships with key service contacts and oversight delivery of related party contractual commitments;
  • Conduct Annual Review and Due Diligence of third-party suppliers
  • Prepare Board papers and present to the Board;
  • Participate in and/or provide oversight of projects for key initiatives;
  • Support regulator engagements/requests, provide guidance and support the preparation of information, participation in assurance reviews and assisting in providing information to the regulators, as required.
  • Support Company Secretary, Senior Managers of the OST and the Head of the Office of the Superannuation Trustee, as required.

What are we looking for

  • An understanding of and focus on members best financial interests.
  • Superannuation experience in either a risk, compliance, governance or Trustee support role.
  • A demonstrated strong understanding of the Superannuation regulatory environment and key regulators, in particular ASIC and APRA.
  • Ability to review, understand and translate complex concepts into quality written materials.
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills, an ability to work effectively and to collaborate with a range of people including more senior stakeholders.

Specialisations that will make an impact

Experience and/or qualifications in cyber security, information technology, data governance, and/or artificial intelligence will be highly regarded.

Inclusion Statement

Vanguards continued commitment to diversity and inclusion is firmly rooted in our culture. Every decision we make to best serve our clients, crew (internally employees are referred to as crew), and communities is guided by one simple statement: Do the right thing.

We believe that a critical aspect of doing the right thing requires building diverse, inclusive, and highly effective teams of individuals who are as unique as the clients they serve. We empower our crew to contribute their distinct strengths to achieving Vanguards core purpose through our values.

When all crew members feel valued and included, our ability to collaborate and innovate is amplified, and we are united in delivering on Vanguards core purpose.

Our core purpose: To take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance for investment success.

How We Work

Vanguard has implemented a hybrid working model for the majority of our crew members, designed to capture the benefits of enhanced flexibility while enabling in-person learning, collaboration, and connection. We believe our mission-driven and highly collaborative culture is a critical enabler to support long-term client outcomes and enrich the employee experience.
