Role Summary

Provides technical leadership for mission-critical liquidity management and cash management platforms supporting Vanguard investment operations. Responsible for architecture, design, engineering quality, operational excellence, mentoring engineers, and driving modernization initiatives.

The role is an Individual Contributor leadership position, not a people manager role. The expectation is to coach, mentor, and elevate the technical capability of the team while remaining hands-on in design and development.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead design and implementation of complex software solutions.

  • Serve as the primary technical advisor for the team.

  • Drive architecture decisions with architects and senior stakeholders.

  • Ensure solutions meet scalability, resiliency, security, and performance requirements.

Team Development

  • Coach and mentor engineers.

  • Create growth opportunities for TS02 engineers.

  • Ensure quality engineering practices are consistently followed.

  • Drive peer reviews and technical excellence.

Product Ownership

  • Operate as part of a product team with end-to-end accountability.

  • Own development, production support, reliability, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead incident response and problem resolution efforts.

Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and portfolio management teams.

  • Translate investment and liquidity management requirements into engineering solutions.

  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Modernization & Innovation

  • Drive adoption of cloud-native patterns.

  • Support modernization of liquidity management systems.

Required Technical Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in software development, architecture, and system integration.

  • Bachelors degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Computer Science or IT, or Bachelors in Computer Applications (BCA), or Masters in Computer Applications (MCA).

  • Learning mindset & coaching ability, Product ownership mentality, financial domain knowledge

Backend

  • Strong experience in Golang, Python, and/or Java

  • Hands-on experience with API design and microservices architecture

  • Experience with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB

  • Event-driven and distributed systems experience preferred

Frontend

  • Angular and/or React

  • Ability to contribute across the full stack when required

Cloud & DevOps

AWS Cloud, ECS / Fargate, Lambda, S3, Storage Gateway, IAM, CloudFormation, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines

Engineering Practices

Agile delivery (Scrum and Kanban), Jira, Confluence, TDD / automated testing, Production support and operational ownership, Experience using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) preferred
