About the role

Morningstar DBRS is seeking a full-time Analyst to join its Financial Institutions Group in Madrid or Frankfurt. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Sector Lead, the successful candidate will support lead analysts in assigning and monitoring ratings for European banks, insurance companies, investment management companies, and non-bank financial institutions.

In addition, the Analyst will participate in various ongoing projects and contribute to commentaries within the European FIG team. Key responsibilities include performing financial statement analysis, creating and maintaining industry databases, and supporting lead analysts in preparing press releases, rating reports, and commentaries. The Analyst will also acquire a broad understanding of sector-specific rating methodologies and criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Lead analysts in preparing analytical materials for credit rating committees and for the monitoring of existing credit ratings, as well as contributing to issuer and sector research.

  • Participate as an observer in rating committees, draft rating committee minutes and update internal. databases to reflect committee decisions.

  • Perform financial statement analysis.

  • Adhere to regulatory and company procedures.

  • Acquire a solid understanding of covered sectors and of relevant rating methodologies.

This position may require occasional European travel.

Qualifications

  • Degree in economics, finance, statistics, accounting or related field. CFA designation or enrollment in the CFA program is preferred.

  • Numeracy and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, graphic creation and database management are essential.

  • Some professional or academic experience in credit analysis of financial institutions is preferred.

  • Detail-oriented research abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work closely with others as well as independently, and produce detailed work in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent communication skills in English. Fluency in Spanish, German, and/or another European language is a plus.
