We are seeking a hands-on Vice President level Software Engineer to join the Structured Credit & Financing Technology team in New York. The role will provide intraday desk-facing coverage for Credit Repo, Credit Exotics and related Genesis trading tools, while also delivering strategic stability and platform enhancements across Structured Credit & Financing workflows. The candidate will partner closely with traders, structurers, strats, operations, controllers, market risk and global technology teams to support daily business needs, resolve production issues, and build robust solutions across trade booking, risk/PnL, margin, settlement, reporting and workflow automation. The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on developer with excellent communication skills, strong ownership, and the ability to operate effectively in a global team supporting a fast-moving front-office business.


What youll do in the role:


Intraday desk coverage and production ownership

  • Provide intraday coverage for Structured Credit & Financing trading tools, with primary focus on Credit Repo, Credit Exotics Genesis-based workflows.

  • Act as a senior technology contact for traders and business users during the London trading day.

  • Triage, investigate and resolve production issues across trading, booking, pricing/risk, margin, workflow and reporting tools.

  • Partner with global technology teams, strats, production management teams to ensure timely resolution of business-impacting issues.

  • Own follow-through from incident analysis to permanent remediation, including code changes, monitoring improvements, regression tests and documentation.

Hands-on engineering and stability uplift

  • Design, develop and maintain software across the Structured Credit & Financing technology stack.

  • Improve system stability, resilience and performance across Genesis trading tools and related backend services.

  • Refactor fragile or high-risk components to reduce design dependencies, improve supportability and enable faster delivery.

  • Build stronger automated test coverage, release validation, monitoring and alerting to reduce production incidents.

  • Contribute to performance tuning, reliability improvements and modernization of existing tools and infrastructure.

  • Work across UI, service, data and integration layers where needed, while maintaining strong engineering standards.

Business delivery and strategic platform enhancement

  • Deliver enhancements for Credit Repo, Exotics, TRS, PB related workflows.

  • Support improvements in trade booking, position visibility, risk/PnL, margin, settlement, collateral, curve/marking processes and reporting.

  • Partner with business users to turn complex requirements into practical, robust technology solutions.

  • Help integrate financial models, analytics and risk calculations into scalable trading and risk platforms.

  • Contribute to strategic platform adoption, including Genesis workflow expansion, APIs, automation and migration away from legacy tooling where appropriate.

Communication, collaboration and team culture

  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including traders, structurers, operations, controllers, risk and senior technology managers.

  • Explain technical issues, business impact, remediation options and delivery trade-offs in a concise and transparent way.

  • Work effectively in a global team across London, Hong Kong, New York, Montreal and India.

  • Be a strong team player who shares knowledge, improves runbooks, supports on-call rotation, and helps raise the capability of junior team members.

  • Demonstrate ownership, integrity, collaboration and a continuous improvement mindset.

What youll bring to the role:

  • Bachelors degree or above in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative / computational discipline.

  • Strong hands-on software development experience in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Scala, C++, C#, Python or similar.

  • Experience building and supporting medium to large-scale server-side applications.

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, data flows and production support patterns.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex issues under time pressure.

  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design through implementation, testing, deployment and production support.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work directly with business users and explain technical topics clearly.

  • Self-motivated, accountable and comfortable operating with limited supervision.

  • Strong team player with a collaborative working style.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in front-office technology, trading tools, risk systems, pricing platforms, or financial workflow automation.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $155,000 and $215,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
