About The Role

An opportunity exists for a Lead Analyst to drive Australian Non-Bank Financials sector coverage within Morgan Stanleys Equity Research franchise. This role owns the sectors research agenda, investment views and published product, partnering closely with Sales & Trading and broader research teams to deliver differentiated insights and high-impact client engagement. The successful candidate will also set team standards, develop talent and ensure research output meets the Firms quality, risk and compliance expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead Australian Non-Banks Financials sector coverage, setting the research strategy, coverage universe and publication agenda

  • Develop clear investment theses and differentiated views, integrating macro, industry structure, regulation and company fundamentals

  • Direct and review financial modelling and valuation workstreams (including scenario and sensitivity analysis) to support ratings and price targets

  • Author and sign-off research publications, ensuring accuracy, consistency of messaging and adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements

  • Lead client strategy and engagement across institutional accounts, including roadshows, conferences, management meetings and bespoke deep-dives

  • Partner with Equity Sales & Trading to build sector franchise, deliver timely market commentary and support idea generation

  • Management of an Associate

Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent; post-graduate qualification preferred (Finance, Economics, Actuarial, MBA or similar)

Significant experience in the Banking, Insurance and/or Diversified Financials industry and/or experience leading published equity research coverage within Non-Bank Financials, with proven client impact.

Skills Preferred

  • Extensive experience in the Banking, Insurance and/or Diversified Financials industry and/or experience in equity research (or closely related investing/strategy role) covering Australian Non-Bank Financials

  • Deep financial statement analysis, valuation and modelling expertise; ability to oversee and QA complex models built by the team

  • Strong leadership capability, including mentoring and coaching

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate investment views clearly to sophisticated institutional clients

  • Strong commercial judgement and curiosity across corporate strategy, regulation and industry dynamics shaping Australian Non-Banks Financials

  • Proven ability to drive a client franchise: proactive idea generation, responsiveness, and strong partnership with commercial stakeholders.

  • High standards of integrity and attention to detail, with a strong understanding of research controls, risk management and compliance

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across domestic, regional and global stakeholders, influencing outcomes and prioritising competing demands
