Full Job Description

Introduction

Maven is a technologically advanced proprietary trading organization founded in 2011 with office locations in London, Amsterdam, Chicago, New York, Hong Kong, and Monaco.  The company employs market leading traders, developers, engineers and operational team members to execute a diverse range of market-making and position-taking strategies across global derivatives, equities and debt instruments.  Mavens culture is relaxed and informal, however the organisation is also highly-focused, results-driven and rewarding of exceptional performance.

Maven Risk Management

Innovative in its approach, Mavens Risk team is responsible for monitoring and controlling firm-wide risk exposures.  We are a global team, working collaboratively with technologists, developers and trading to implement and operate the firms risk framework.  In doing so, Risk designs new systems, methods and processes, enhancing risk control for the business whilst delivering diligent and skilled risk management across the diverse asset classes and strategies we trade.

Risk Analyst Role

The Risk Analyst role is focussed on market risk management.  It presents an exceptional opportunity for an individual with the right core expertise to make an impactful contribution to the control of risk across the business, working in close collaboration with Risk team members and with broader teams across support and trading.

Whilst this role has a multi-strategy focus, the successful candidate will also bring the skills required to contribute to risk management across the full scope of our business, including the options market-making business.  Supported by experienced colleagues, the Risk Analyst will develop their expertise managing diverse areas such as listed options algorithmic trading, interest rates, credit and commodities proprietary trading.

As Maven continues to grow and to implement new strategies, our risk monitoring systems, controls and processes develop, increasing in their complexity and sophistication.  The Risk Analyst will ensure the effective operation of Mavens daily risk processes and provide robust, diligent risk monitoring; a significant responsibility considering the volume and diversity of strategies we execute.  In addition, the successful candidate will interpret and develop risk metrics, shaping our risk management processes, alongside engaging with the broader Risk team to provide input into the development of our systems, controls and processes. The Risk Analyst will also engage directly with trading, ensuring effective communication within the APAC region and, indeed, across our broader trading locations.

If you have the skills identified as important, combined with a natural curiosity for the financial markets and an understanding of trading and risk concepts, we can help you develop into a market-leading Risk Analyst.

Role Specifications

  • Diligent risk monitoring on a real-time basis.
  • Daily communication on risk issues and requirements within the Risk team, with the CRO, and with stakeholders across trading and support functions.
  • Market risk monitoring for proprietary trading and options market-making
  • Collaborate with technologists and the broader Risk team to enhance algorithmic trading controls.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the existing risk monitoring and reporting framework, working in conjunction with the Risk team and with teams across the broader business.
  • Operational risk monitoring and participation in risk mitigation workstreams.
  • Collaborate with the global Risk team to deliver risk-focused project workstreams.

Candidate Specifications

  • 1-3 years relevant experience gained working in proprietary trading or at a buy-side financial institution.
  • Core expertise working on equity focussed strategies and fixed income derivatives.  Experience working with options is beneficial.
  • A working knowledge of (and interest in) broader trading strategies and asset classes (such as convertible bonds).
  • An advanced qualification in a quantitative field such as finance or a STEM-related subject.
  • Exceptional report writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable understanding of AI and its real-world use in the workplace.
  • Basic knowledge of a programming language, such as Python, to support productivity.
  • A calm and considered approach, particularly whilst working under pressure.

What We Offer:

  • A great environment whereby technology is key to our success
  • The upside of a start-up without the associated risks
  • Friendly, informal and highly rewarding culture
  • A fast-growing global firm with plenty of opportunities where you will have a significant impact
  • Work in a forward-thinking environment where AI is integral to our strategy and daily operations
