Full Job Description

The Lead Observability Engineer drives the strategy, design, and handson implementation of observability across all RealTime Collections squads. The role focuses on measuring and optimising customer experience of exchange data, embedding observability as a core engineering practice within applications and builds, and providing guidance and expert consultancy throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the Real-Time Unified Observability roadmap for RealTime Collections and Contributions. Laser-focused on ensuring customer experience is measurable, visible, and continuously improved.

  • Hands on C++ Development in a low-latency environment

  • Work handson with Collections squads to embed "Observability as a Practice" throughout the software development lifecycle. Support and encourage engineers to observe their software throughout Dev, Test, PPE and Prod.

  • Guide teams in building customercentric SLIs and insight dashboards that reflect timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and stability of market data.

  • Establish repeatable GitOps/APIdriven workflows for observability assets within build pipelines, ensuring consistent deployment and versioning.

  • Influence platform architecture and reliability decisions across Collections, ensuring observability considerations are baked into design early.

Requirements:

  • Base technical proficiency in C++ in order to engage with full-time developers.

  • Deep experience with observability engineering such as distributed tracing, and realtime metrics pipelines.

  • Excellent leadership skills: able to coach teams, influence engineering culture, and drive crossteam alignment.

  • Strong analytical mindset for diagnosing complex distributedsystem behaviours and customer impact.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to simplify system performance concepts for broader stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Strong background in SLI/SLO design, especially for latencysensitive or market data systems

  • Ability to design and deliver endtoend telemetry solutions across multiple teams and services

  • Skilled in cloudnative, containerized, and Kubernetes environments

  • Proficiency with API- and GitOps-based workflows, configascode, and automated telemetry promotion.

  • Experience with eBPF diagnostic capabilities like tracing, network performance and app profiling.
