As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Infrastructure Platforms team, you hold a leadership role in your team, demonstrate strong knowledge across multiple technical domains, and advise others on the technical and business issues facing them. Take lead and conduct resiliency design reviews, break up complex problems into digestible work for other engineers, act as a technical lead for medium to large-sized products, and provide advice and mentoring to other engineers.
- Consistently models and champions site reliability culture and practices, documents and shares knowledge within your organization via internal forums and communities of practice
- Own reliability outcomes for mission-critical network services (availability, performance, recoverability) and drive measurable improvements.
- Lead major incident response by establishing response rigor, coordinating technical mitigation, coaching responders, and ensuring high-quality post-incident learning.
- Own problem management end-to-end, including authoring/approving RCAs, identifying systemic root causes, and driving durable remediation and prevention.
- Architect automation frameworks using Python, Shell, and Ansible (e.g., self-healing patterns where appropriate, automated remediation with guardrails, validation pipelines, standardized tooling).
- Provide deep technical leadership in SD-WAN, SDA, and software-defined networking (SND).
- Provide deep technical leadership in routing and switching.
- Provide deep technical leadership across firewalls, load balancers, and proxies (with strong preference for Cisco ACI/Fabrics; VMware NSX as a plus).
- Partner with developers/platform teams to improve observability (define operational signals, reduce alert noise, improve actionability, and align monitoring to service health) and embed SRE practices into design/delivery (translate NFRs into measurable targets, apply FMEA-style risk analysis, and drive readiness reviews/resilience testing/change safety mechanisms).
- Leads reuse-first adoption of AI-assisted reliability workflows across SDLC/toolchain practices (e.g., CI/CD quality checks, test/validation automation, and operational readiness), ensuring traceability/auditability, resiliency, and security controls.
- Uses enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate major-incident triage, troubleshooting, and post-incident analysis, validating outputs and handling operational data according to sensitivity and security requirements.
- Formal training or certification on site reliability engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
- Extensive experience operating and engineering large-scale networks with strong troubleshooting depth.
- Proven leadership in major incidents, including coordinating response and driving technical mitigation.
- Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis (RCA), identify systemic issues, and deliver long-term fixes that reduce repeat incidents.
- Advanced automation track record using Python, with demonstrable toil reduction and reliability gains.
- Advanced automation track record using Shell, with demonstrable toil reduction and reliability gains.
- Advanced automation track record using Ansible, with demonstrable toil reduction and reliability gains.
- Strong applied understanding of SRE concepts, including non-functional requirements (NFRs) and reliability engineering practices.
- Strong ownership mindset and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive delivery independently and with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to improve SRE workflows (e.g., incident investigation support and knowledge capture) with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity.
- Ability to evaluate AI-assisted operational recommendations for correctness and risk, define appropriate guardrails for team usage, and ensure outcomes align to resiliency and security expectations.
- Demonstrate strong expertise with Cisco ACI/Fabrics.
- Bring VMware NSX experience.
- Hold certifications such as CCNP/CCIE (or equivalent), plus other vendor certifications.
- Leverage prior experience in financial institutions.
