If you are a software engineering leader ready to take the reins and drive impact, weve got an opportunity just for you.

As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Cross Markets Strategic Index team, you will be part of the most successful QIS franchise in Investment Banking.  We have consistently been ranked number one for innovation, assets under management, and revenue.  The strategic index platform, which covers all aspects of trading, sales and structuring (including risk, profit and loss, execution, booking, market data and client facing applications), is the foundation for this continuously growing, and increasingly automated business.

The Strategic Index technology team designs and develops various applications, processes and software components for the Strategic Index desk.  You will work with a global team of innovators and technologists passionate about improving the way our index business is run. Partnering with our colleagues in the Quantitative Research, Structuring, Trading, Sales and Middle Office teams, you will be called upon to deliver quality code in a fast paced environment that evolves as business opportunities present themselves.

Job responsibilities

Liaise with stakeholders and manage the global program of work
Own and deliver specific projects within program of work
Collaborate with and influence other technology teams to deliver solutions to meet the needs of our users

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
The role requires a technically strong and disciplined developer.  The successful candidate will be able to make impactful functional deliveries; they will also be one of a handful of senior technologists responsible for influencing design decisions across the group, including ensuring that we continuously improve the platform's design as we incorporate new capabilities.  A record of delivering high quality, well-tested solutions in a mature controlled environment is a prerequisite.
Experience in performant, large-scale system development in an object-oriented or functional programming language such as Python, Java, C++ or C#.
Willingness to become proficient and develop in Python if not already a primary language.
Excellent interpersonal skills to interact confidently and credibly with business users, to understand and agree business requirements and their prioritisation while building a good understanding of end to end business processes.
Good understanding of Agile development methodologies, responsible for elucidating and agreeing requirements, building relationships with business users, and taking ownership of deliverables all the way to the production environment.
Focus on testing through the entire development cycle to produce reliable and maintainable software.
Enthusiastic to keep learning and growing, in technical aptitude, business understanding and personal effectiveness.
Eager to take ownership of work, have real business impact, overcome obstacles and take it through to completion, working as part of this team and collaborating with a much bigger community of developers sharing the technology and code base.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Experience in finance or investment banking (Market Risk, P&L and/or financial modelling) as an application developer is preferred. Knowledge of Equities, FX, Credit, Rates, Commodities asset classes and/or Index & Portfolio analytics is a plus.
