Job Overview

The Dev Engineer role focuses on designing, building, and enhancing modern Java-based applications while supporting migration from legacy systems to cloud-ready architectures. It is part of INGs IT Engineering function within WB Tech in ING Hubs Philippines. The role works closely with cross-functional Agile squads, including developers, architects, SREs, and product stakeholders. The engineer collaborates with operations and platform teams for CI/CD, monitoring, and incident management, typically reporting into an Engineering Lead or Chapter Lead within the IT domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based web applications using frameworks such as Spring Boot
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives, migrating legacy systems into microservices or event-driven architectures
  • Implement integration solutions using Kafka, JMS, MQ, file transfer, or cloud storage (e.g., S3)
  • Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
  • Apply testing strategies (unit, integration, and E2E) using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, Selenium, and Cucumber
  • Support observability and reliability efforts using Grafana, Prometheus, and ELK stack
  • Implement and maintain database solutions using Oracle and ORM frameworks like Hibernate
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure adherence to IT risk and control standards (access, change, and security controls)
  • Support incident management and production stability, aligning with ITIL practices

Key Capabilities/Experience

  • Strong engineering background with 5+ years of IT experience across diverse technologies and environments
  • Hands-on experience in modern architectures (microservices, event-driven systems, distributed integrations)
  • Proven exposure to Agile delivery, DevOps practices, and SDLC methodologies
  • Experience in system integration and enterprise application development across multiple platforms
  • Familiarity with incident management and operational processes in production environments

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Java development, particularly Spring Boot-based applications
  • Strong understanding of microservices and distributed systems design
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerization (Azure DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
  • Hands-on knowledge of integration technologies (Kafka, MQ, JMS, APIs)
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices
