Role purpose

Real Estate Services (RES) is part of the Global Procurement & RES Infrastructure team within the Global Chief Operating Office (GCOO) at HSBC. The function is responsible for shaping and delivering the Banks real estate strategy globally, working in close partnership with businesses, senior leadership and external strategic partners.

The Global and AME RES ESG Manager supports the delivery of a coordinated programme of ESG and sustainability activities and projects across RES, with a particular focus on global project delivery and regional support for Asia & Middle East (AME).

Working closely with the Global Head of RES ESG and Sustainability, regional ESG teams, RES market leads and supplier partners, the role helps translate strategy into practical delivery, strong governance, and measurable outcomes.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate delivery of key global sustainability projects, including the environmental compliance plan, green leasing and metering roll-out, driving plans through to BAU with markets and supplier partners.

Support AME delivery by engaging regional supplier ESG teams and market leads to translate global requirements into clear country-level plans, actions and outcomes.

Drive ESG data management and reporting for AME, ensuring data is accurate, complete and decision-useful; identify trends, risks and opportunities.

Support target setting and delivery, including aligning EUI targets and developing the Net Zero Carbon (NZC) roadmap to achieve Scope 1 and 2 public reduction targets (e.g., energy efficiency and renewable energy).

Support markets to meet environmental compliance requirements and local legislation, partnering with senior stakeholders and suppliers to track actions through to closure

Lead progress towards RES renewable electricity ambitions, supporting delivery of RE100 (100% renewable electricity by 2030) through opportunities such as onsite renewables, green tariffs, PPAs and Renewable Energy Certificates .

Establish and maintain governance and documentation, ensuring robust controls, documentation and supporting management policies to manage RES risk.

Provide ESG subject matter expertise, advising on ESG standards, regulations and best practice relevant to real estate and the built environment.

Support ad hoc regional/country programmes assigned by the Global Head of RES ESG & Sustainability or RES Leadership, as required.

Track risk and cost considerations across ESG delivery, ensuring appropriate recording, escalation and transparency.

Build ESG capability across RES by delivering training and updates on process/policy changes, and embedding RES ESG goals into ways of working and performance scorecards to drive consistent adoption

Create clear, insight-led communications and updates for internal channels and stakeholders, tracking adoption and delivery progress and using feedback to improve outcomes.

Promote continuous improvement and best practice, researching new ideas and assessing applicability for wider adoption across RES.

Leadership and Teamwork

Strategic mindset: Strong understanding of the purpose, strategy, and value of RES within the wider business context, and how ESG delivery supports HSBCs operational and sustainability ambitions

Stakeholder engagement: Capability to shape insight-led engagement and influence outcomes across diverse senior audiences, with excellent communication skills to articulate complex issues clearly and concisely.

Cross-functional connector: Ability to guide and influence across organisational boundaries, break down silos, and enable effective collaboration across multiple functions, service lines and geographies.

Functional Knowledge

Technical & professional expertise: A broad understanding of sustainability and social impacts associated with large corporates and their operations, with a specific focus on real estate and the built environment (e.g., environmental compliance, energy/carbon reduction, renewable electricity).

ESG data management & insight: Experience collecting, managing and reporting ESG data to meet internal and external needs; able to assure data quality (accuracy/completeness) and translate outputs into trends, risks and opportunities.

Complex initiative coordination: Experience coordinating complex, multi-market initiatives and reviews, with the ability to structure work, define outputs, and drive delivery through a combination of internal stakeholders and external partners

Supplier partnering & oversight: Experience working with outsourced partners, able to set clear direction and outcomes, influence delivery through others, and maintain appropriate oversight of performance, issues and actions through to resolution.

Industry knowledge: Strong understanding of the external sustainability landscape and how its changing (regulation, standards and market expectations), and how large banks respond.

Professional qualifications (preferred): Relevant professional qualification or certification (Environmental Science, Facilities Management, Engineering, Renewable Energy or related discipline), with suitable relevant experience in a large organisation
