Full Job Description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If youre looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist

In this role

  1. Provide infrastructure SME leadership across Linux, Veritas Cluster, database infrastructure, and OpenShift platforms.
  2. Deliver L3/L4 support and deep-dive troubleshooting across OS, clustering, storage, database and platform layers, driving rapid restoration and root-cause resolution.
  3. Own standard builds and lifecycle management (configuration, patching, hardening) in line with security, risk and operational resilience requirements.
  4. Improve platform stability and availability by identifying recurring issues, completing RCA, and implementing permanent fixes (not just short-term remediation).
  5. Design and tune monitoring/observability (alerts, dashboards, thresholds, capacity/performance indicators) and translate signals into actionable remediation.
  6. Build automation and self-healing runbooks (scripts/playbooks) to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
  7. Lead DR strategy and execution: plan DR approaches, run table-top/live tests, validate RTO/RPO, document outcomes, and drive remediation actions to closure.
  8. Lead delivery of infrastructure initiatives end-to-end (scope, plan, RAID, dependencies, governance), coordinating engineers/ops/vendors/stakeholders and providing exec-ready status updates.

To be successful in this role (8 points)

  1. Strong hands-on infrastructure experience, operating in complex, multi-team environments.
  2. Expert Linux administration and troubleshooting: performance tuning, patching, hardening, scripting and incident management.
  3. Proven Veritas Cluster capability: design/support, failover validation, upgrades, and major incident troubleshooting.
  4. Solid database infrastructure operations knowledge: installation support, performance triage, backup/restore concepts, patch coordination, and availability planning with DB teams.
  5. Operational exposure to OpenShift/container platforms: platform triage, capacity/performance management, and availability support.
  6. Strong monitoring/observability skills, including converting alerts into diagnosis, prioritisation, and sustainable fixes.
  7. Demonstrable DR delivery experience, including DR planning, executing tests, validating recovery, and continuously improving recovery procedures.
  8. Clear communication and delivery discipline, able to coordinate across teams, manage risks/dependencies, and align outcomes to security and operational resilience expectations.
