Investment Banking - HSBC Infrastructure Finance - Off-Cycle Internship

Location:

London, GB, E14 5HQ

Programme Type:  Internship Programme
Start Date and Duration:  Mon Mar 01, 2027; 10 Weeks
Opening Date:  Thu Oct 01, 2026
Closing Date:  Thu Oct 15, 2026

Area of Interest: Investment Banking

Business Area: Corporate and Institutional Banking

Short Description: Help deliver financing solutions that support major projects and energy transition.

About the business area

Corporate and Institutional Banking helps some of the worlds largest companies grow and succeed by offering investment and financial solutions. Working across markets, sectors and borders, youll help deliver the insight, connectivity and support that enable clients to navigate change and unlock new opportunities

In Infrastructure Finance, we work with companies, investors and governments across areas like infrastructure, digital and telecoms, transport, logistics, support services, and power, utilities and renewables. The team helps clients understand their funding options, shape the right approach, and put plans into action. This includes supporting major projects and playing an important role in helping clients move towards a lower-carbon future.

Who you are

Youre curious, analytical and interested in solving complex problems while building strong relationships. You dont need to know everything about investment banking yet what matters is your drive to learn, your resilience and your willingness to get involved. You could be a great fit if you work well in teams, communicate clearly and can break down complex information to see what matters most. You stay focused under pressure, adapt quickly and take ownership of your work. Youre proactive, thoughtful and interested in building trust over time. If you want to learn how major financing decisions support real assets, infrastructure and long-term client goals, this could be a strong fit.

What you'll do

Youll work with deal teams on live transactions across Infrastructure Finance or Export Finance, supporting clients on projects with long-term impact. You could help review financial statements, carry out credit analysis, assess project financials and due diligence, and build or update financial models used in debt financing and valuation work. You may also prepare client materials such as teasers and information memorandums, research market developments, and create insights for internal teams and clients. Along the way, youll work with colleagues across banking teams and specialist functions, and see how finance and advisory support clients on areas including infrastructure and Net Zero transition. Its detailed, hands-on work with real exposure to live deals. The internship also includes structured assessments aligned to securing a graduate role, giving you chances to demonstrate how you think, collaborate and deliver, through tasks such as project work, presentations, interviews or skills-based evaluations.

What you'll learn

Youll get the training, coaching and practical exposure needed to start building a career in infrastructure finance. A week of structured training at the start of the internship will help you strengthen your understanding of financing concepts, product knowledge and the analytical tools used to support clients. Youll also build relationship skills by learning how trust and credibility are developed with colleagues and clients, and youll deepen your professionalism by understanding how to handle sensitive information with care. Because the work supports real assets across sectors and geographies, youll also gain a broader view of how finance connects to major projects and long-term change. By the end, youll have stronger technical confidence and commercial awareness.

Where you'll work

Youll work in Infrastructure Finance within Corporate and Institutional Banking, alongside teams focused on project, export and acquisition finance. Its a specialist environment where bankers, analysts and product experts work together on complex transactions with long-term impact. Youll be part of a professional office culture that values teamwork, commercial thinking and attention to detail. Expect a collaborative setting with exposure to global sectors, cross-functional working and the wider investment banking environment.
