We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead design and delivery of cloud-native, high-performance data pipelines and microservices.
  • Build and support solutions using Java (incl. Java 8), Spring Boot 3, Microservices, PostgreSQL, JPA, JavaScript, MongoDB, Apache Flink (real-time streaming focus) and Apache Beam.
  • Drive GCP-based engineering across Dataflow, BigQuery/ClickHouse, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage/GCS, Composer, plus Apache Airflow, GKE, and Python for scripting, automation and automated testing.
  • Own live production applications, modernise legacy stacks, and partner with cross-functional teams to shape and deliver new features and enhancements.
  • Define transformation roadmaps and lead migration of legacy applications to modern, cloud-native architectures (including re-platforming/refactoring to microservices), with minimal disruption to service with focus on service resilience
  • Monitor and optimise pipeline and application performance; ensure data quality, integrity and security end-to-end.
  • Coach and mentor engineers across levels; keep the team current on data engineering trends and best practices.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • 18+ years in development engineering, with strong experience in ETL and data pipeline delivery.
  • Degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or similar); relevant industry certifications are a plus.
  • Strong leadership plus hands-on capability in Java and SQL; front-end exposure to React and TypeScript.
  • Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for complex data and application issues.
  • Clear communicator who collaborates well with teams and senior business stakeholders.
  • Proactive risk/issue reporting with practical mitigation plans.Working knowledge of Helm for Kubernetes deployments.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Stackdriver.
  • Good grasp of security best practices for cloud and Kubernetes; DevOps skills are an advantage.
