We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering.

Principal responsibilities
- Design, review and deliver the end-to-end technical architecture for HSBC and Hang Seng mortgage system rebuild, guaranteeing stable deployment and reliable operation of Java/Spring Boot & PostgreSQL workloads on AWS.
- Lead the engineering team, conduct rigorous technical design reviews and code reviews, enforce unified engineering standards and promote agile delivery.
- Establish technical specifications for Java development, Spring Boot framework usage, PostgreSQL database design, as well as IaC standards, CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows for AWS environments.
- Optimize system high availability, scalability, performance, resilience and cost following AWS best practices; tune Spring Boot applications and PostgreSQL databases for production workloads.
- Analyze mortgage business rules and translate complex requirements into stable, maintainable Java-based technical implementations.
- Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks, resolve critical production incidents, and ensure all systems comply with Hong Kong banking security and regulatory requirements.
- Drive legacy system refactoring, technical upgrades and continuous architecture optimization for the mortgage platform.
Requirements
- 815 years solid software development and technical leadership experience, fully aligned with HSBC GCB4 competency standards; proven track record of delivering large-scale enterprise core systems.
- Expert-level proficiency in Java and Spring Boot ecosystem, with extensive experience building enterprise-grade backend applications.
- Deep hands-on experience in PostgreSQL database design, development, performance tuning, indexing and production operation.
- Rich practical experience deploying, managing and operating Java & PostgreSQL workloads on AWS; skilled in AWS core services, cloud networking, IAM and cloud security controls.
- Strong expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, containerization and distributed system design.
- Solid experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, monitoring, logging and alerting for production systems.
- In-depth knowledge of financial system architecture, data flow and banking-grade security requirements.
- Familiar with Hong Kong banking technical compliance and data protection regulations.
- Excellent technical communication and stakeholder management skills; fluent English for cross-team and cross-organization collaboration.- Experience in building services on cloud

- A good learner with curiosity and passion in technology, who keeps updating his/her knowledge and knows how to acquire knowledge for problem resolving
- Good communication skills to be able to express complex problems logically and briefly and to explore and dig information from surface. Skills to facilitate meetings or give presentations.
- A team player, preferably having agile team experience
