Job Description:

Overview of Role

The Research Intern is part of the Oil Research team based in Singapore. Reporting to the Head of Research Asia Pacific, he/she is responsible for assisting the team to produce analysis on oil products trading desk.

Main Responsibilities

  • Tracking of global oil flows by product grades, analyze emerging trends and provide insights to trading desks
  • Assist in tracking changes in refinery capacity and turnarounds, to develop understanding of refinery operations during this process
  • Timely and concise analysis of market developments relating to the oil products markets, add depth to the existing analysis at country and company level
  • Assist in the production of regular market outlook slide packs for senior management
  • Act as interface between traders and IT front office team to maintain and add functionality to the internal reporting interface
  • Suggest new ways of displaying price and fundamentals data, and ways to improve automation in the teams work processes
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects that add value to the research work developed by the desk analysts
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks assigned by manager

Profile:

The individual should have the following qualifications/ experience:

  • Degree in Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical/Industrial/Maritime/Petroleum), Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, Data Science, or other STEM disciplines preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and high accuracy of data input
  • Advanced data skills in database management, coding, statistical analysis (back testing), and visualization (Excel, PBI, SQL, Python)
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills with ability to work under pressure in dynamic environment
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Self-motivated individual and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Applicants need to commit to the standard 5 days work week throughout the entire 6 months internship period.
