RISK 

Risk identifies, monitors, evaluates, and manages the firms financial and non-financial risks in support of the firms Risk Appetite Statement and the firms strategic plan. Operating in a fast paced and dynamic environment and utilizing the best-in-class risk tools and frameworks. Risk teams are analytically curious, have an aptitude to challenge, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

OPERATIONAL RISK

The Operational Risk Department at Goldman Sachs is an independent risk management function responsible for developing and implementing a standardized framework to identify, measure, and monitor operational risk across the firm. 

This role within the Operational Risk Coverage team is dedicated to second line oversight of the Global Banking and Markets segment. This includes trading functions as well as classic investment banking activity.

This role requires an energetic self-starter who is inquisitive and keen to learn. Someone with the ability to understand new topics quickly and provide thoughtful opinion will do well in this role. Experience in handling large data sets via Excel, Tableau, Alteryx or otherwise would be beneficial. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the operational risk event management framework and data collection, including reviews of significant events to help ensure remediation plans are appropriate and progressing as agreed.
  • Analyze trends across internal and external event data to help identify key and emerging risks.
  • Assist in the review of new business initiatives and firm acquisitions proposed by Global Banking and Markets, contributing to the assessment of risk posture.
  • Build product and transaction knowledge over time to support discussions on the business's risk and control self-assessment (RCSA).
  • Help apply basic financial models to quantify loss projections used for stress testing assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help develop metrics that measure the division's exposure across various risk types.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of operational risk reporting, methods, and practices.
  • Prepare regular reporting and presentation materials for senior management and business leaders.
     

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Some relevant experience in operational risk, reporting, data analytics, or a related field (internships or rotational experience welcome).
  • An interest in data analysis and reporting, with a willingness to build quantitative skills over time.
  • Curiosity about the products offered by Global Banking and Markets, with a desire to learn.
  • Some awareness of, or interest in, regulatory frameworks.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to present information clearly.
  • Self-starter and continuous learner who is proactive and enjoys taking ownership.Ability to handle and analyze large sets of data.
