Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially minded Vice President to join our Prime Brokerage Consulting team in Hong Kong, with a specialized focus on Legal, Compliance & Regulatory Consulting.

In this senior, client-facing advisory role, you will serve as a key differentiator for our Prime Services franchise in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. You will act as a strategic advisor to both launching and established hedge funds, helping them navigate the complex legal, regulatory, and operational landscapes of the global asset management industry.

The ideal candidate is a mid-to-senior level Vice President who possesses the technical depth and executive presence to engage directly with Founders, Chief Operating Officer (COOs), General Counsel (GCs) and Chief Compliance Officers (CCOs) of our prime clientele, which includes large global hedge funds, established Asia boutiques as well as new launches.

While your core expertise will lie in legal, regulatory and compliance advisory for asset managers, you will be intellectually curious and eager to learn other aspects of our consulting offering (such as operational workflows, human resources and talent, technology infrastructure, and hedge fund service provider selection) to become a well-rounded generalist over time.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal, Compliance & Regulatory Advisory: Provide institutional clients with high-touch consulting on critical legal, compliance and regulatory matters, including:
     
    • Fund Formation & Structuring: Advising on fund structures (e.g., master-feeder, standalone, mini-master) and management company setups across key jurisdictions (Cayman Islands, Delaware, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc.).
       
    • Regulatory Licensing: Guiding managers through licensing requirements for hedge funds and broker-dealers (e.g., SFC Type 1 and Type 9 in Hong Kong, MAS in Singapore, SEC/CFTC in the US, and FCA in the UK).
       
    • Compliance Program Design: Assisting clients in establishing, operating, and scaling robust compliance programs tailored to hedge fund managers and broker-dealers.
       
    • Employment Law: Advising on employment practices, key-man clauses, compensation structures, and restrictive covenants within the asset management sector.
       
    • Marketing & Capital Raising Regulations: Navigating global marketing rules, private placement regimes, and the structuring of Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs).
       
  • Client Relationship Management: Lead high-impact, client-facing engagements. Cultivate deep, long-term relationships with C-suite executives (Founders, COOs, GCs, CCOs) of top-tier global and regional hedge funds as well as new launches
     
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Integrate seamlessly with Goldman Sachs' internal teamsincluding the US/EU Consulting teams, Global Prime/Equities Sales, Government Affairs, Legal, and Complianceto deliver unified, firm-wide solutions to clients.
     
  • Industry Ecosystem Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key external industry participants, including top-tier law firms, compliance consultancies, and industry bodies such as the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA).
     
  • Franchise Growth & Content Creation: Author thought leadership pieces, regulatory updates, and industry benchmarking reports. Organize and speak at industry roundtables, seminars, and client events.
     

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or equivalent legal qualification from a reputable institution.
     
  • Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of experience in a legal, compliance, or regulatory consulting role within the asset management industry (e.g., at a top-tier law firm, a major hedge fund, a regulatory body, or a prime brokerage consulting team).
     
  • Executive Presence: Proven track record of successfully facing off with senior executives (GCs, CCOs, COOs, and Founders) of large, complex institutional investment managers.
     
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of global regulatory frameworks (SFC, MAS, SEC, CFTC, FCA) and fund structuring dynamics.
     
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into practical, commercial business advice.
