GBM Private, Structured Finance - Structured Credit Solutions Group, Associate New York

Our division works on some of the most complex financial challenges and transactions in the market today. Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an initial public offering, we handle projects that help clients at major milestones. We work with corporations, pension funds, financial sponsors, and governments and are team of strong analytical thinkers, who have a passion for producing out-of-the-box ideas.

The Capital Solutions Group within Global Banking & Markets is looking for an Associate to join the Structured Finance - Structured Credit Solutions ("SCS") team in New York. SCS is a diverse and global business that brings together broad capabilities across financing, underwriting, capital raising, risk management and advisory to provide holistic solutions to our clients. The group works closely with classic investment banking, trading and other product groups to originate and execute structured finance transactions.

The SCS team is a market-leading and differentiated franchise focused on pioneering creative and novel structured solutions for corporate clients across all sectors and regions. Working with the SCS team means the opportunity to be involved with some of the most consequential and strategic financings for major corporates. Recent deals include structured equity joint ventures (including digital infrastructure), Esoteric ABS transactions such as airline loyalty-backed financings and spectrum-backed financings, pre-IPO structured HoldCo financings and cross-border asset-backed LBO financings, among others. We are an entrepreneurial team and regularly adjust our focus based on key themes and trends relevant to our clients. In addition to recently executed transactions, we offer solutions spanning hybrid capital, non-traditional project finance, bespoke future flow financings, tax credit monetization, and special situations financings. The team employs a OneGS approach. Through a cross-divisional effort with our Asset & Wealth Management division, we offer both best-efforts and principal executions for clients in developed and emerging markets.

Responsibilities

The Associate role in SCS combines many of the features of classic investment banking, principal investing and sales and trading.  Associates leverage existing modeling and client relationship skills and develop new business generation skills. They are integral members of our nimble, dynamic project teams and will be actively involved in managing transaction processes, leading Analysts, developing models and analyses, and working across different coverage and product teams on a variety of projects simultaneously.  Associates have opportunities to engage with clients, get exposure to GS leadership and develop significant product knowledge while building a broad skill set in a short period of time.

Associates will work closely with senior bankers in preparing written and oral presentations, running asset and financing analyses, developing credit information for ratings agencies and investors, reviewing legal and other offering documents, and assisting in the valuation and financing associated with M&A, LBO and asset sale transactions.

Expertise and Skills:

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must have completed an undergraduate degree and be available to start immediately (subject to any notice period required by their current employer, if applicable)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in Investment Banking / M&A, Structured Finance, Securitization, ABS, or Asset Backed Finance

Preferred Qualifications / Qualities

  • Strong modeling and financial analysis expertise
  • Experience of working on complex, structured transactions
  • Ability to form independent judgments and move transactions forward
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Good presentation / communication skills with ability to effectively interact with groups across divisions (e.g., traders, sales, investment bankers)
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Drive and enthusiasm with a team orientation
