Job Summary & Responsibilities:

Multi-Asset Solutions, MAS is an investing group within the Asset Management Division at Goldman Sachs. MAS is responsible for managing customized multi-asset class portfolios and funds, including discretionary mandates for US and international public pension plans, sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies and providing outsourced CIO services. The team is comprised of professionals with deep and varied investment backgrounds who specialize in designing and implementing customized multi-asset class portfolios. The team applies rigorous techniques to strategic and tactical asset allocation, asset-liability analysis, portfolio design and implementation, risk management, and portfolio reporting and analytics. The team has been managing customized multi-asset class mandates since 1995 as a committed partner to corporate pensions, sovereign wealth funds, healthcare organizations, endowments, foundations, and government institutions.

Role:

The successful candidate would become a member our New York Portfolio Management team within MAS with focus on the Outsourced CIO channel and will be responsible for daily management of US pensions & Insurance portfolios in line with MAS investment philosophy, client guidelines and regulatory constraints. This role is highly analytical and detail-oriented, focusing on managing strategic and dynamic investment exposures across many asset classes and investment strategies. 

The position provides significant exposure to insurance portfolio management, including asset-liability considerations, fixed income portfolio construction, and the evaluation of corporate, securitized, private credit, and multi-asset investment opportunities.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Managing multi-asset class portfolios in line with client guidelines, internal investment policies, and regulatory constraints. Develop investment judgment and expertise, with expectation of being able to perform key portfolio management responsibilities within a few months after joining. 
  • Lead investment and risk projects aimed at enhancing and scaling trading and risk management processes, infrastructure, and analytics to further empower the teams oversight over Insurance portfolio management activities and mitigate trading risks. 
  • Trading across asset classes (equities, fixed income, currencies, alternatives) and instruments (futures, forwards, ETFs, options, swaps, funds).
  • Managing portfolio risk across various investment vehicles and product desks, including exposure, currency and cash management, investment manager/vehicle oversight.
  • Working closely with internal GSAM teams to execute dynamic asset allocation views with consistency and scale, including determining optimal instruments to trade based on portfolio-specific, regulatory and market-related considerations.
  • Structuring trades across asset classes to manage the portfolio in line with hedging and flow considerations, in collaboration with GSAMs trading desk.
  • Managing derivative-based overlay strategies to enhance risk management profile of overall portfolios and/or capture market risk premia.
  • Analyzing portfolio risk and performance attribution and reporting findings to Senior Portfolio Managers on a weekly basis.
  • Producing investment updates and market commentary for dynamic portfolio views for divisional audiences
  • Participating and at times serving as a project lead in complex portfolio events, including onboarding of new client mandates, portfolio restructurings, public/private investments, requiring coordination across multiple internal investment teams throughout the firm, as well as external managers and trading counterparties.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree 
  • Advanced degree or CFA designation preferred
  • 3-6 years of investment management experience, with successful track record of teamwork and employing qualities and functional abilities referenced above
  • Ability to communicate investment strategies and rationales to audiences of varying levels of sophistication
  • Experience in trading and managing risk for insurance or pension portfolios
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to work in a team-centric environment
  • High degree of investment awareness, including macroeconomic trends and implications for investing in a multi-asset class framework. Intermediate or advanced knowledge of asset allocation principles and of factor investing approaches
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience analyzing and investing across fixed income sectors, including investment grade and high yield corporates, securitized credit (CMBS, RMBS, ABS, CLOs), and private credit.
  • Understanding of key portfolio construction concepts, including duration, spread duration, yield curve dynamics, credit quality, liquidity, and risk-adjusted return analysis.
  • Experience evaluating relative value opportunities across credit sectors and translating market views into portfolio allocation recommendations.
  • Willingness to help build and enhance portfolio management, trading, and analytics infrastructure within a growing insurance investment platform.

 

Salary Range 
The expected base salary for this New York, NY, United States-based position is $100000-$170000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
