Operations 
Operations is a dynamic, multi-faceted division that partners with all areas of the firm to deliver banking, sales and trading and asset management capabilities to clients around the world. Alongside this vital service delivery role, Operations provides essential risk management and control, preserving and enhancing the firms assets and its reputation. Operations span all product lines and markets, serving as internal business partners who develop the processes and controls that deliver accuracy, timeliness, and integrity to our business.

Asset Management Operations
We provide customized service to our clients and enable our business to grow the Asset Management franchise across traditional and alternative products. Our teams execute within a front to back operating model, delivering support across the client, product, and investment lifecycle. We also conduct risk oversight, provide change management, business intelligence, and market solutions for the division.

The Asset and Wealth Management Private Operations team provides operational support to the Real Estate, Private Credit and Private Equity business lines. This is an exceptionally diverse role that entails collaboration with Investing Professionals, Portfolio & Asset Managers, Strategists, Engineering, Controllers, Legal, Risk, Tax, Compliance, other Operations teams and external counterparties across each business line. Supporting alternative product transactions includes providing operational support for fund launches, acquisition, disposition/harvesting, financing (both lending and borrowing) and various lifecycle cash management activities. The role involves working on new structures and supporting complex payment landscape with strong collaboration and coordination across both regional and cross-regional stakeholders. The scope of the role is expected to evolve and expand as functions transfer into the team, scope of the investment mix changes and payment infrastructure transforms. The team is a fast paced, client centric environment where team members must continually adapt to changes in the business, markets and regulatory environment. In addition, team members are expected to drive workflow changes and contribute to the global strategy. We seek team orientated candidates who can demonstrate excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage competing tasks and prioritize risk accordingly.  

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join Goldman Sachs as the VP team lead in our Real Estate Portfolio Servicing Team in Tokyo. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the teams BAU processing as well as driving transformation initiatives to deliver automation in the payment space. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Leverage your leadership skills to effectively provide supervisory oversight of the team.
  • Gain an in-depth & comprehensive understanding of bespoke alternative product structures and its funding flows.
  • Partner with the Business, Federation, and external parties to provide subject matter and system knowledge expertise for optimal cash managementt and seamless deal settlement.
  • Contribute to the divisions commercial and operational strategic goals by driving projects for payment automation.
  • Showcase your attention to detail by ensuring accurate cash management and regulatory reporting, contributing to the overall settlement support from the team and performing periodic risk assessments. 
  • Ensure control measures are established to effectively manage risk across the team and contribute to proposing optimal operational models.
  • Facilitate the business by providing solutions to urgent requests by showcasing your ability to drive issues and collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders and external Agent Banks in a fast-paced environment, while ensuring control standards are not compromised. 
  • Drive, execute and deliver change (e.g., risk reduction, increased efficiency)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be VP level to apply for the role. 
  • Experience managing people and being a proven team lead is essential.
  • Payment expertise is essential and the candidate ideally will have a deep understanding of the Japan payment landscape. 
  • Over 7 years experience in a similar role 
  • Bachelors Degree or higher.
  • High attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy and responsiveness.
  • Proven analytical skills, problem solving ability and a risk focused mindset.
  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast and challenging environment where priorities can change frequently. 
  • Flexible and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player, who takes ownership and accountability.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to identify where process improvements can be made to increase efficiency and control.
  • Native level in both written and spoken Japanese. Business proficient in English communication.
  • Microsoft Office application proficiency
