Position Description:

Provides stability and resiliency for brokerage applications according to resiliency best practices across mainframe, distributed, and cloud platforms. Manages a team and ensures prompt responses to production incidents according to Agile Kanban framework. Mitigates customer impact, identifies root causes, and determines short term and long-term corrective actions. Identifies improvement opportunities for associate development and implements the same to provide direction and foster associate success. Draws on in-depth knowledge of the business or function to provide business unit-wide solutions by developing complex, multi-faceted software applications. Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the business unit and participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve business-unit-wide solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes backlog based on business objectives and value.
  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the functional level.
  • Participates in high-level, cross-functional architecture design teams.
  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.
  • Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.
  • Consults on deployment of major project deliverables.
  • Consults on the documentation of major technology applications.
  • Oversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.
  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.
  • Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.
  • Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies.
  • Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.
  • Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.
  • Identifies and plans for future resource needs.
  • Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or a closely related occupation) delivering operational support for mission-critical real-time trading applications within the financial sector.

Or, alternatively, Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or a closely related occupation) delivering operational support for mission-critical real-time trading applications within the financial sector.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (DE) providing production support for real-time trading and reporting of alternative investments applications -- mission critical desktop and Web applications -- within a distributed client server application environment using Datadog and Splunk reports and alerts, Information Technology Service Management (ITSM), ServiceNow, and JIRA.
  • DE setting-up automated batch cycle processing, creating business reports, scheduling jobs, and performance tuning to reduce cycle times of batch jobs using Oracle PL and SQL; and debugging and fixing production issues using Control M, UNIX shell, and SQL queries.
  • DE developing functionalities to transfer data to and from a distributed environment using SQL Developer, Control-M, and Axway; and developing reusable CI/CD pipeline templates for application release orchestration using Jenkins Core in financial and investment domain.
  • DE identifying, analyzing and fine-tuning application and server performance bottlenecks to facilitate user experiences using monitoring tools (Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, and Grafana); and supporting and administering enterprise infrastructure for event streaming services (Kafka).
