Job Description:

Job Summary

The Energy Manager is the single point of contact for EDF customers. This includes discussions around hedging, scheduling, outages, etc. Support of our customers/asset owners/operators requires the Energy Manager to be flexible and be available 24 X 7 X 365 under certain circumstances. 

Responsibilities

  • Optimization
    • Development and implementation of resource optimization and risk management strategies for a facility including daily optimization and coordination of forward hedging opportunities
    • Collaborate with internal personnel and owners representatives to develop tools to ensure the efficient and economic dispatch of an asset including design and implementation of asset dispatch models to drive daily strategic decisions
    • Actively engage in market protocol development to constantly stay abreast of market construct changes to adhere to rules and regulations
  • Operations and Communications
    • Serve as the main operations and commercial contact for third party assets overseeing every aspect of an assets daily operations from optimization to settlements
    • Prepare and lead morning calls with customers/owners. Provide market fundamentals, market intel, and plant economics for the day ahead market as well as a lookback of prior day operations.
    • Ensure owners are kept apprised of all areas of an assets commercial operations as well as market developments.
    • Report daily plant schedules, P&L and any MTM exposure as required
    • Monitor market conditions, provide advice and market intelligence
    • Oversee daily and intraday gas nominations and proactively recommend adjustments as conditions change.
  • Scheduling
    • Schedule and monitor a plants bid submittal, transactions and commitments with ISOs and bi-lateral counterparty transactions either by IST trades or e-tags. 
    • Ensure forward commitments and hedges are effectively managed and contractual obligations are met
  • Settlements
    • Track daily settlements to ensure accuracy and data integrity prior to distribution to client
    • Assist client in reconciliation of  P&L, gas transactions and settlements discrepancies
  • Origination and forward hedging
    • Coordinate with client and EDF origination and trading to develop hedging strategies and opportunities

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree with strong academic credentials in Finance, Math and or Statistics required; Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of industry experience with a keen understanding of electricity markets, specific knowledge of ISOs as well as non-ISO markets. Prior knowledge of gas markets and pipelines preferred
  • Experience with various generation fuel types such as natural gas, wind, solar and batteries preferred
  • Proficient with Excel, ability to extract data using python or power query preferred
  • Attention to detail with the ability and know-how to suggest improvements to business processes
  • Strong inter-personal skills and prior experience in a client management role is a plus.
