As a Strategy Director, you will be responsible for leading client engagements (or multiple engagements), coaching and developing talent and also significantly contributing to sales & business development initiatives. You will be highly motivated and skilled in your field and have a passion for addressing the challenges in the industry. While no two projects are the same, you will typically be the client lead on multiple projects, building sustainable client relationships and also leading on business development activities at the same time. Youll play a vital role in coaching and providing feedback to the team in designing the analysis approach, distilling insights and constructing strategic recommendations.

At times this will include being the bridge from strategy into delivery, and we particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in selling and delivering new propositions and digital transformations, alongside core strategy skills.

The nature of the work we do includes:

  • Working with clients to understand and define strategic choices ahead of key investment decisions
  • Traditional evidence-led analysis to identify market development opportunities to support client strategies
  • Determining the optimum business or commercial model to effectively deliver client objectives
  • Helping our clients configure effectively and develop their ability to deliver operational excellence in specific areas
  • Identifying new ways of working that will stimulate innovation and growth, and lead to better decision-making
  • Guiding and supporting clients through imagining, defining and delivering their digital journey to enable competitive advantage

The team: The role sits within the Banking & Payments Strategy team, part of Deloitte's Financial Services Strategy team. You will work with a group of experienced strategists and industry professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds. Youll also benefit from being part of the wider Monitor Deloitte Strategy community in the UK and globally, with opportunities to learn best practice strategy techniques across industries. Beyond the Strategy team, you will build a network with Banking & Payments experts across Deloitte, in digital, marketing, M&A, regulatory and operations.

Responsibilities:

 As a Strategy Director your responsibilities will include:

  • sourcing and winning strategy work in the banking & payments sector. Leading and developing Business development: sourcing and winning strategy work in the banking & payments sector. Leading and developing service offerings and evolving propositions to drive growth in the industry sector
  • Taking a leadership role in the management of the practice, including financial reporting, commercial performance tracking, learning and development and talent management
  • working closely with clients and internal stakeholders, taking the lead in developing strong professional relationships and liaising with teams to deliver seamless client experience
  • : Overseeing the day-to-day work of teams across multiple engagements to ensure scope and client deliverables are completed to the highest standard
  • Managing project budgets and maintaining operational margins whilst ensuring quality standards are adhered to
  • proactively developing your own skills, seeking feedback, building knowledge, and sharing your insight with colleagues

We are looking for people who will help scale our banking & payments practice with a proven record of selling and delivering strategy engagements and a strong background in the Banking & Payments sector.

Essential:

  • Management or strategy consultancy experience is essential 
  • Corporate strategy development within industry (e.g. traditional and digital retail/commercial banks, building societies, payments firms) 
  • Demonstrable ability to build revenue generating client relationships across a number of stakeholders as well as cross-sell other Deloitte services into banking & payment clients 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams in a project-based or client-facing environment and managing stakeholder relationships 
  • Strong understanding of the UK Banking (retail and commercial/SME) and/or Payments landscape, trends, and drivers of change 
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment 
  • Flexibility to travel 

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate or professional qualification (e.g. MBA) or equivalent
