About the role

CME Group is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer II (SRE II) to help build, operate, and scale systems in our Markets portfolio. Markets SREs work on products and applications for CMEs Globex trading platform, where our systems deliver an exceptional combination of low-latency performance and rock-solid reliability to seamlessly handle the worlds busiest trading days.

The successful candidate will work alongside with senior engineers to observe, monitor, automate, and improve the reliability of our production services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build Observability: Collaborate with product teams to design and implement robust monitoring, alerting, and observability for key services.

  • Enhance Reliability: Provide SRE expertise on reliability, scalability, and performance for new features and system changes.

  • Automate & Innovate: Write scripts and tools to automate operational tasks, reduce toil, and improve engineering velocity.

  • Incident Response: Participate in an on-call rotation and assist in incident response under the guidance of senior engineers, contributing to a culture of blameless post-mortems.

  • Improve Resiliency: Contribute to Disaster Recovery (DR) and resiliency testing to ensure our systems meet strict availability requirements.

  • Cloud Migration: Support the migration of Markets applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

What We're Looking For

  • 1-3+ years of professional experience in a Site Reliability, DevOps, Software, or Systems Engineering role.

  • A keen interest and passion for Site Reliability Engineering principles.

  • Demonstrable ability to automate operational tasks using a language like Python or Bash.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), especially GCE and/or GKE.

  • Monitoring Tools: Hands-on experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry, or Splunk.

  • Distributed Systems: Knowledge of working with large-scale distributed systems.

  • Containerization: Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

  • Networking: Basic knowledge of networking protocols (HTTP, TCP/UDP, IP).
