Job Overview

Citi Commercial Bank provides global and local banking capabilities and services from emerging to mid-sized corporates worldwide. The position is located in Prague, and it provides great opportunity to leverage on your interpersonal and relationship management skills in a professional environment working with internal and external clients in Western Europe and the UK.

As an Underwriter, you will have full oversight of the end-to-end credit process: credit risk monitoring and management, credit package preparations, and credit proposal review/approval. In this client-facing role you will co-operate with other divisions of the Bank, especially with the Sales, Risk and Product teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly prepare credit applications; check their completeness; request clarifications if necessary; assess them in the context of the valid / relevant policies, procedures and guidelines. 
  • Prepare independent credit opinion; negotiate and set conditions for credit approval and prepare credit package for approval (as per valid / relevant policies, procedures and guidelines, identifying all exceptions and escalations required.
  • Take competent credit decisions according to assigned personal CO Limit and in line with relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Follow and monitor the portfolio of assigned/covered clients through their life-time and escalate proactively and timely all potential credit issues acting as First Line of Defense.
  • Effectively manage and closely monitor classified customers covered; propose feasible account strategies avoiding / minimizing potential losses; prepare timely CCMs.
  • Prepare and/or approve credit packages within required TAT cycle time and within CLM pipeline agreed rules.  Provide timely services to the internal/external customers.
  • Obtain and keep profound knowledge of all applicable local and global credit policies, procedures and guidelines. Be compliant and accountable for adherence to them. Act as a keeper of the best practices, share them, promote them and actively cultivate the internal environment (business and CLM). Be ready to align and coordinate across the European clusters (CE4, Western Europe, the UK).
  • Participate on CLM tasks/requirements such as round tables, quarterly financial/covenant checks, regular and ad-hoc reporting, portfolio stress testing, audit etc.
  • Communicate efficiently across the bank (Business, Risk, Dox, Collateral, CRMS, Legal, Operations, EW and others)
  • Provide credit advice to more junior colleagues in CLM and Sales teams, building credit awareness / risk recognition in the bank and cultivating the lending management process.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on all accounts, bank products and policies.

Requirements:

  • University degree
  • At least 5 years of relevant banking experience (analytical, relationship management, EW or remedial position) or another relevant position in banking institution.
  • Very good knowledge of financial statements and financial analysis and accounting rules, primarily IFRS EU.
  • Deep understanding of bank products and collateral types, loan documentation standards, financial and non-financial covenants.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Another language (German, Italian, Spanish, or French) on a solid level is highly desired.
  • Self-organized person with ability to pay attention to details and work under pressure.
  • Strong analytical thinking; balanced risk-business approach; ability to apply common sense and to take fast / competent decisions.
  • Team player; fast learner; flexible and precise, with positive attitude
  • PC skills (MS Office), willingness to learn specific systems used within Credit Approval area, and various internal AI tools.
