Job Overview

Citi is looking for a Risk & Controls Analyst to join its Custody business, playing a central role in identifying, assessing, and managing operational risk across a complex and fast-moving financial environment. In this position, you will help protect the integrity of the business by ensuring controls are robust, governance frameworks are effective, and risk is managed within defined boundaries. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact at one of the world's leading global banks, working at the intersection of risk management, operational oversight, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assess risk and control frameworks across business activities, including evaluating the impact of business changes to ensure controls remain effective and fit for purpose.

  • Monitor control performance, identify breaches, and share lessons learned across business units to drive measurable improvements in operational practices.

  • Conduct in-depth reviews of control designs and management practices, recommending and implementing corrective actions that address root causes rather than symptoms.

  • Ensure risk events are recorded accurately and responded to in a timely manner, maintaining the completeness and integrity of risk reporting.

  • Implement and maintain governance and training mechanisms that keep the business's risk profile well-managed and transparently reported.

  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to embed control points and processes that enhance both client experience and operational effectiveness.

  • Analyse risks in line with policy requirements and support the rollout of standards and procedures that align with organisational risk management objectives.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in risk management, controls, or a related compliance or operational risk function within financial services would be beneficial.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and control frameworks, identify root causes of control failures, and formulate practical corrective measures.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements, laws, and rules relevant to business decision-making within a financial institution would be beneficial.

  • Proficiency in advanced Excel for data sorting, filtering, and risk-related analysis, alongside experience managing and querying databases for risk reporting purposes.

  • Ability to produce clear, well-structured documents, reports, and procedural manuals that communicate risk findings to a range of audiences.

  • Experience implementing governance frameworks and compliance standards, with the ability to track and manage regulatory obligations using relevant software tools.

  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI to support risk analysis and management reporting.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in Custody or Asset Servicing environments, with an understanding of the operational and risk landscape specific to these businesses.

  • Comfort working with artificial intelligence tools and an ability to apply emerging technologies to enhance risk monitoring and reporting processes.

  • Understanding of basic cybersecurity principles and their application in assessing and mitigating technology-related risks.

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant discipline such as finance, business, or risk management.
