Job Description:

About us

Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to power and navigate a changing world. In a time of constant change and possibility we need new talent to pursue commercial opportunities, motivated by extraordinary insight and expertise. Were always striving for more innovative digital solutions, sustainable outcomes and closer collaboration across our company and beyond, and you could be part of that too. Together we continue to grow as the worlds leading energy company!

Role Description

The Seismic Processing Geophysicist is a member of the Western Hemisphere Seismic Delivery Team (WH-SDT) within Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS). Seismic is a critical technology for unlocking and de-risking subsurface resources, and future success depends on advancing data quality in increasingly complex environments.

The WH-SDT builds and delivers high-density, rich-azimuth acquisition programmes and applies advanced signal processing, velocity model building (including FWI), and imaging technologies to deliver high-quality, workstation-ready seismic products. The team operates across bps Western Hemisphere assets and offers an environment suited to delivery-focused professionals who want to deploy technology and take ownership of projects.

WH-SDT handles seismic acquisition and processing programmes across the Americas and Caribbean, with a strong emphasis on ocean bottom node (OBN) acquisition, including ultra-long offset sparse 3D for basin-scale exploration and high-density 3D/4D developments across the oil and gas value chain.

This role will be based remotely from the core WH-SDT hub. As such, it requires a high degree of self-direction, accountability, and the ability to work independently while remaining fully connected to the wider team. The successful candidate will proactively demonstrate modern collaboration tools and communication approaches to maintain alignment, share knowledge, and sustain strong working relationships across locations.

The role is accountable for delivering high-quality seismic processing outcomes and for driving innovation through contractor engagement and collaboration with bps Seismic Technology organisation.

Most seismic imaging projects are driven through external contractors. The role involves full lifecycle project managementfrom technical design and procurement through quality assurance to final deliveryalongside selective hands-on processing using bp proprietary and third-party tools. This hands-on contribution will typically focus on data integrity, modelling, concept testing, and deployment of new technologies.

The Seismic Processing Geophysicist serves as the primary technical interface between WH-SDT and asset geophysicists at the project level, ensuring alignment on data quality, processing strategies, and delivery outcomes.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the role also gives to acquisition planning and field data quality assessment, with opportunities for deeper engagement in seismic acquisition as activity evolves.

Active engagement with bps assets, regional teams, and Geophysical Discipline leadership is required to maintain interested party alignment. The role contributes to 8Q and 5-year seismic plans, supports engagement with external partners (including assurance of operated-by-others projects), and represents bps seismic activities in both internal and external forums.

Coaching and mentoring of junior team members is an integral part of the role, supporting capability development and successful project delivery.

Key Accountabilities

  • Actively supply to the Western Hemisphere Seismic Processing Squad, including HSSE and team initiatives.

  • Lead or support contractor-based seismic processing projects, including project management, scheduling and budget tracking, quality assurance and technical oversight, and work scope definition and tender evaluation.

  • Support seismic acquisition projects by contributing to survey and processing design, advising on data delivery specifications, and assessing and managing field data quality issues.

  • Perform and/or coordinate hands-on seismic processing using bp toolkits (e.g., Reveal, Sharp Reflections/PreStack Pro, DDS).

  • Provide technical guidance to asset geophysicists on data quality evaluation and processing strategies.

  • Ensure application of guidelines through engagement with Geophysical Operations and Seismic Processing Communities of Practice.

  • Support seismic planning processes (8Q and 5-year plans) and external partner assurance activities.

  • Operate effectively in a remote and distributed team environment, demonstrating strong self-management while maintaining proactive communication, alignment, and knowledge sharing through digital collaboration tools.

Essential Criteria

  • BSc (or higher) in Geoscience, Engineering, or related discipline.

  • 1015 years proven experience (seismic acquisition, processing, or analysis).

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Collaborative great teammate with effective stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote or distributed team.

Desirable Criteria

  • MSc/PhD focused on seismic processing or related discipline.

  • Significant experience in seismic processing, including contractor QA/QC and hands-on workflows.

  • Experience with advanced processing techniques (e.g., noise attenuation, demultiple, complex imaging, FWI).

  • Exposure to a range of acquisition environments (land, towed streamer, OBN; 3D/4D).

  • Familiarity with contractor processing systems and industry practices.

  • Established technical network within the geoscience community.

  • Demonstrated project management capability, with a practical and decisive approach.
