Join this 3-12 month engagement with a renowned global law firm, leveraging your expert insights to drive compliance and regulatory reform. **Key Responsibilities:** - Advise on privacy law, regulatory compliance, and risk management - Support regulatory reform and compliance uplift programs - Collaborate with various teams to identify and manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risks - Lead on privacy-related legal issues as a subject matter expert **Required Skills & Experience:** - 8+ years of experience in privacy law, ideally including telecommunications -(current) Australian practising certificate - Security clearance (or willing to obtain) - Proficient in navigating complex legislative and regulatory frameworks - Computers skills (MS Office Suite, case management systems) - Ability to work autonomously and adapt to evolving circumstances **Preferred Qualities:** - Resilience and adaptability, clear communication skills, and strong analytical capabilities - Experience in scam prevention frameworks, customer protection obligations, and telecommunications regulatory requirements - Familiarity with sensitive customer matters and associated issues

The Opportunity

Join a leading organisation in a role that will strengthen your legal career.

  • Duration: Minimum 3 months, potentially up to 12 months
  • Arrangement: Full time (hybrid)
  • Location: Brisbane

About You

You are an experienced privacy lawyer with a minimum of 8 years' experience, bringing a strong track record from private practice or in-house roles within large organisations. Experience in telecommunications will be highly regarded (but is not essential if you have experience working in a highly regulated environment.)

Preferred Experience and Expertise:

  • Demonstrated experience advising on privacy law and regulatory compliance within the telecommunications, technology, financial services or other highly regulated sectors
  • Strong knowledge of the Privacy Act, Australian Privacy Principles and emerging privacy regulatory developments
  • Experience providing legal advice on telecommunications-specific privacy obligations, including protected information requirements under Part 13 of the Telecommunications Act
  • Experience advising on obligations arising under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act, including interception, data retention and law enforcement access requirements
  • Proven ability to support organisations through regulatory reform and compliance uplift programs, including implementation of new legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Strong capability in identifying, assessing and managing legal, regulatory and reputational risks associated with privacy and telecommunications regulation
  • Experience advising on governance, compliance and regulatory matters within a large corporate or in-house legal environment
  • Experience supporting regulatory projects involving privacy reform, cyber security, data governance, consumer protection or telecommunications compliance
  • Familiarity with scam prevention frameworks, customer protection obligations and broader telecommunications regulatory requirements would be highly regarded
  • Experience advising on sensitive customer matters, including hardship, vulnerability, domestic violence or customer protection issues would be advantageous
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with legal, risk, privacy, compliance, regulatory and operational teams
  • Ability to operate as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for privacy-related legal issues

  • Highly analytical with the ability to interpret complex legislative and regulatory frameworks
  • Capable of working autonomously and exercising sound judgement on complex legal and regulatory matters

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to build credibility and trusted relationships across the organisation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex regulatory concepts in a clear and practical manner
  • Effective prioritisation and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple competing matters
  • Calm under pressure and capable of providing clear guidance in complex or sensitive situations
  • Committed to continuous learning and staying abreast of evolving privacy, telecommunications and regulatory developments

Requirements:

  • Current Australian practising certificate
  • Right to live and work in Australia
  • Have or be prepared to get security clearance
