The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Head of Business Acceptance Team - APAC to join our Risk & Compliance team, on a full time permanent basis in Australia.

The Head of Business Acceptance Team APAC is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the operational delivery of the integrated Business Acceptance Team (BAT) function across APAC. The BAT team is responsible for processing all business acceptance requests, encompassing both Conflicts and Risk Assessment & Business Protection (RABP) work streams.

Working alongside the Heads of Conflicts, Ethics & Commercial Advisory and Financial Crime, and the Director of Risk & Compliance, this role supports the firm to: (i) meet its global compliance obligations (through the effective operational delivery of business acceptance processes across conflicts of interest, AML/CTF compliance, sanctions screening, PEP identification, and client-related reputational risk assessments) and; (ii) operate its business acceptance risk management controls in a way that ensures associated risks remain within risk appetite.

We are interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Strong relevant experience in Compliance and Risk Management at a like-minded international law firm, with deep expertise in conflicts, ethics, AML/CTF, and commercial risk issues.
  • Sound understanding of the nature of work in a multinational corporate law firm, demonstrating knowledge of the client base, markets, and commercial strategy.
  • A legal qualification (or LPC minimum) or a degree in Law, Risk Management, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Proven track record in managing and mentoring teams, with strong supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Experience of designing and producing performance reports, KPIs, and management information for senior stakeholders is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of the SRA Code of Conduct, Authorisation rules, and other jurisdictions' professional Codes, as well as international sanctions and AML regulatory frameworks.
  • A track record in delivering compliance projects, operationalising legal requirements, and leading change management initiatives is required.
  • Strong analytical, research, and organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
