Full Job Description
Senior Legal Technologist
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic, commercially minded and technically capable Senior Legal Technologist to join the Practice Innovation pillar within the Innovation & Legal Technology team. The successful candidate will help drive the effective use, evaluation and future of the firm's internal legal technology tool stack, with a particular focus on supporting lawyers to adopt the right tools for the right use cases.
You will support the Practice Innovation team in monitoring the legal tech market, assessing emerging products and Generative AI developments, and ensuring the firm maintains a clear view of where tools overlap, where opportunities exist, and how value is being realised across the technology stack.
THE TEAM
Our Innovation and Legal Technology (ILT) team, formed in 2015, is one of the three teams that make up the Innovation Group. The ILT team combines technology and legal expertise, fully integrating these capabilities into our business operations. ILT has grown into a fast-paced and dynamic unit, constantly evolving to provide opportunities for contribution and career development.
Within the ILT team, the Practice Innovation pillar focuses on helping lawyers embed technology and improved ways of working into their day-to-day legal delivery. We collaborate with teams across the firm to identify pain points, scope opportunities for improvement and support the adoption of tools and solutions that improve efficiency, consistency and client service, as well help the Firm realise measurable value from innovation investments.
This includes managing and evaluating the legal tech tools used by lawyers in their everyday work, supporting trials and onboarding of new technology, tracking adoption and ROI, coordinating with internal stakeholders and vendors, and helping configure or develop solutions where off-the-shelf tools do not fully meet business needs.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
Supported with the appropriate training and guidance required, your key responsibilities will be:
Monitoring the legal tech market, tracking competitor offerings, emerging products and Generative AI developments relevant to the firm's existing and future tool stack.
Benchmarking and evaluating new and existing tools, assessing their performance across relevant legal tasks, workflows and use cases.
Testing out new use cases or solutions on existing technologies to understand capabilities and communicate this back to teams
Tracking and reporting on ROI, adoption and value realisation for tools within the firm's technology stack.
Maintaining a centralised view of tool features, differentiators and areas of overlap across the firm's stack and the wider market.
Supporting trials, pilots and assessments of new legal technology, including structured evaluation, stakeholder feedback and coordination with relevant internal teams.
Supporting procurement and contract negotiation processes for new tools being considered or onboarded by the firm.
Working with lawyers and business stakeholders to understand legal workflows and assess where technology can improve delivery, efficiency and user experience.
Supporting the rollout, embedding and governance of legal technology tools used by lawyers in their day-to-day work.
Engaging across the firm to promote innovation and legal technology, including sharing updates on new tools, product developments and market trends.
Working collaboratively across internal teams including IT, Procurement, Risk, Information Security, Knowledge and other pillars within Innovation & Legal Technology.
Staying aware of broader developments in legal services, legal operations, automation and AI, and translating those developments into practical insight for the firm.
Help drive codifying legal and operational knowledge into scalable agentic workflows (e.g. playbooks, checklists, decision trees and AI-supported workflows), enabling consistent, repeatable and efficient delivery across the firm.
Challenge existing processes and ways of working, driving continuous improvement by developing innovative, technology-enabled solutions and evolving them in line with new tool capabilities and features as they emerge.
In addition to the above, we would also expect a Senior Legal Technologist to:
Provide regular feedback, training and guidance to other members of the team.
Take ownership of tool evaluations, market analysis and strategic recommendations, with an ability to communicate findings clearly to a range of stakeholders.
Support team planning, prioritisation and wider strategic initiatives relating to legal technology adoption and optimisation.
Contribute to business cases, procurement processes and decisions relating to the firm's legal technology portfolio.
Build specialist knowledge in relevant legal technology products, Generative AI developments and market trends.
Be able to deputise for senior members of the Practice Innovation team where required.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
An undergraduate degree or equivalent education or experience.
Significant relevant experience in legal technology, innovation or technology-enabled change within a law firm or professional services environment or wider e.g. at a legal tech company or similar?
Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to understand, assess and explain legal technology tools and their practical application.
Experience of evaluating legal technology products, supporting trials or rollouts, and comparing tool functionality against business needs.
Power Platform expertise, including a strong understanding of how Microsoft-based tools can be used to support workflow, reporting and internal solutions.
Coding skills in web-based languages, with an ability to support or develop lightweight technical solutions where appropriate.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess performance, monitor ROI and present findings in a clear and commercially useful way.

An innovative approach, with curiosity about the legal tech market, emerging products and Generative AI developments.
