Full Job Description

Commercial Disputes Lawyer, Associate NQ - 3 PQE, Leeds

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • We are looking to recruit a junior Associate into our ever-growing Commercial Disputes team, based in Leeds. You must be a qualified lawyer with the relevant experience, ideally within a private practice setting.
  • This is an exciting opportunity to join our market-leading commercial disputes practice, working nationally and internationally to help power the continued expansion of the team and practice to meet the firm's strategic growth objectives and with clear opportunities for you to build your career and seek progression in due course as your career develops.
  • We have nurtured an environment where ambitious and hard-working lawyers are supported to succeed, enjoying high calibre work with like-minded, inspiring colleagues who care about each other and their clients.

THE TEAM

The Commercial Disputes Group has lawyers across all UK offices and internationally. In each of the markets in which we operate we are recognised by independent commentators as one of the leading disputes and investigation practices, with a strong reputation in all our offices for our commercial and innovative approach to resolving business disputes.

We have real expertise in key areas, including swift delivery of commercial solutions to complex and critical issues.  We can strategically deploy a combination of formal proceedings (including court and arbitral proceedings) and all aspects of alternative dispute resolution (including negotiation, mediation and adjudication) to deliver results tailored to our clients' commercial objectives. We recognise that an in-depth understanding of the transactions underpinning the disputes we deal with is essential to the sensible resolution of those disputes, so often work closely with our non-contentious colleagues.

Our in-depth knowledge and understanding of the way our clients operate gives us a significant advantage over our opponents, who are frequently the magic circle/major city or US firms.
We represent a large number of blue-chip companies, public sector authorities/departments and high net worth individuals across a huge range of sectors including retail, transport, digital, food and drink, health, industrial, automotive, energy, utilities and financial services. We pride ourselves on being a busy, high performing, diverse and cohesive team.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

  • You will be proactive, agile and enthusiastic about developing your technical skills, knowledge and experience of commercial disputes within a supportive and collegiate environment;
  • You will be expected to think flexibly and creatively to put the client's commercial objectives first, including thinking about how AI and other tools may be harnessed to improve the overall service;
  • You will be expected to play your part in fostering and growing client relationships through collaboration not only with colleagues in the direct team but also with colleagues in other AG practice areas as well as colleagues immersed in relevant industry groups. You will also be encouraged independently to build your own network of client and industry contacts; and
  • Continuous self-development is valued, and you will be encouraged to engage with formal training programmes (both technical and skills based) and to draw on mentoring, coaching and leadership development programmes available to you.

Our FIRM

Addleshaw Goddard is a place where you are valued, encouraged, and challenged to fulfil your potential in a supportive and collegiate environment.  Our culture of improvement, growth and collaboration delivers results, drives innovation, and rewards ambition.

We not only provide technical excellence and experience but, crucially, demonstrate real insight into our clients and what really matters to them and as such we are natural choice for FTSE100 clients and their equivalents in other markets.

Our success has been built by people from the widest range of backgrounds, locations, and perspectives. We have a number of employee networks that provide space to discuss the differences that make us who we are and celebrate this at AG.

OUR APPROACHIMAGINE THE BEST YOU CAN BE

Everything we've accomplished can be traced back to our people and the way we work. Our reputation is something we are proud of, and constantly invest in.

Here, you'll do high calibre work, with high-character colleagues who care for one another and our clients.
