Department Profile:

Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division (IBD) builds and maintains close relationships with corporations and governments around the world in order to provide both traditional and innovative solutions that meet their individual strategic and financial needs.

Key Responsibilities:

The position is with the IBD Business Control Unit which:

  • supports IBD in executing a variety of strategic, financial and regulatory management initiatives;

  • manages risk in real time through product and transactional expertise, independent committee review, challenge and governance;

  • uses a comprehensive framework of policy setting, risk identification and control implementation, including providing governance oversight of M&A, Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets and loan transactions across the Asia Pacific region to meet the Firm’s regulatory and internal requirements, including client onboarding, due diligence, recordkeeping, assessments of anti-money laundering, anti-corruption, sanctions-related matters and the evaluation of potential franchise-related matters;

  • supports business managers by overseeing business adherence and alignment to the Firm’s global risk management principles, policies and procedures through close coordination and interaction with the Firm’s independent risk management functions (e.g., Operational Risk, Credit Risk, Market Risk, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crimes, Technology and Operational Risk, Internal Audit etc.);

  • supports supervisors by performing regular reviews of businesses’ activities and controls, escalating issues and driving execution of remediation actions in a delegate capacity in accordance with the IBD supervisory procedures;

  • fosters a strong compliance culture within IBD by delivering and monitoring trainings;

  • works with the Institutional Securities Group Central Risk team to advise on managing 1st line non-financial risks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with 3+ years of relevant financial, legal, compliance or accounting industry experience preferably on HKIPO’s and USIPO’s

  • Experience with anti-financial crimes related regulatory requirements, processes, implementation of technical solutions, due diligence and/or governance process a plus

  • Solid analytical skills, with familiarity or interest in investment banking and capital markets activities and products

  • Organized and quick learner with business acumen

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Fluency in English and Chinese (or other major Asian language)

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive intra-department and cross-functional working relationships

  • Solution-oriented, with ability to “think out of the box” and to manage tight timelines

  • Ability to work effectively and independently, with strong attention to detail and capability to multitask in a small team environment
