Full Job Description

A Securities Banking Controller is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of all banking businesses which include but are not limited to IG, HY, Securitization, Margin Loans, Equity Capital Markets, Advisory, Lending, Deposits, and Working Capital Solutions. Banking Controllers are responsible for the monitoring of deals/transactions, P&L, and act as a primary control function. The controller is also expected to resolve variances between expected Business revenues and actual revenues. Additionally, the controller will be responsible for ensuring that daily, monthly, and yearly reporting agrees to the general ledger and by legal line item. The controller will perform the above for certain desks while supervising all desks. They will be leading various projects and enhancements for the Banking Control team. 

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Daily, monthly, and quarterly P&L production and analysis including Volcker reporting, etc. 

  • Daily interaction with business 

  • Liaison with various areas within the firm (e.g. Front-Office, COO, Operations, Technology, FP&A, Accounting, etc.) 

  • Supervising the team to ensure daily processes are completed and deadlines/requests are met 

  • Process reengineering to improve efficiency 

  • Month-end General Ledger closes in conjunction with the accounting team 

  • Balance sheet substantiation 

  • Ad hoc requests from the front office or management 

  • Participation in Finance initiatives/projects 

  • Assess new deals for appropriate valuation, accounting treatment, and disclosure in the financial statements 

Qualifications: 

  • Investment Banking experience 

  • CPA or CFA preferred, but not required 

  • 8+ years of product control experience 

  • High attention to detail 

  • Fast learner and team player 

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills 

  • Highly proficient in Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables) 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to clearly articulate ideas 

  • Accounting or Finance degree required 

 

The expected base salary ranges from $120,000 - $200,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, including Medical, Dental and 401K plans, successful candidates are also eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
