The Role

This role sits within the second line of defence and reports to the Head of Resilience Risk. It supports Risk Steward responsibilities for HSBC Innovation Bank across technology, cyber security, and artificial intelligence risk.

Demonstrable expertise in artificial intelligence risk is a core requirement for this role and is central to its purpose. Artificial intelligence risk oversight is a substantive and ongoing responsibility and is integral to the delivery of effective resilience risk oversight.

The role focuses on cross risk analysis, oversight, and reporting. Given the evolving nature of resilience risk, the role holder will also contribute to the identification and assessment of emerging risks, including artificial intelligence and new technologies that may not yet be fully reflected within the current risk taxonomy.

The Value You Will Add
You will support the Risk Steward in delivering oversight of resilience risk and associated risk types in line with the HSBC Risk Management Framework and Risk Steward guidance. This includes providing effective oversight and challenge of technology, cyber security, and artificial intelligence risks across risk identification and assessment, risk appetite definition and monitoring, policy compliance, control effectiveness, risk and control assessments, scenarios, events, issue management, and regulatory expectations where required.

You will produce analytical assessments and opinion papers on the control environment operated by the first line of defence, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, technology, and cyber security controls. You will produce management information and contribute to reports, including risk maps and committee papers, to support Risk Steward and risk committee discussions.

You will build strong working relationships with first line of defence teams within HSBC Innovation Bank and peers across HSBC UK to support effective oversight and a shared understanding of resilience risks. You will provide constructive and credible challenge on incidents, control gaps, and processes, working collaboratively to reach agreed outcomes and escalating where appropriate.

You will monitor developments in the internal and external environment and proactively raise emerging and thematic risks, particularly in relation to artificial intelligence and new technologies. You will also support the Head of Resilience Risk in recommending risk appetite thresholds and overseeing ongoing monitoring.

You Will Need

You will bring proven experience in artificial intelligence risk and artificial intelligence safety within an enterprise risk management, regulatory, or financial services environment. You will have a strong understanding of artificial intelligence risk, model lifecycle management, and the interaction between artificial intelligence, technology, and cyber security controls.

You will demonstrate strong analytical capability, including experience in data analysis and root cause analysis. You will bring subject matter expertise in one or more areas such as vulnerability management, cryptography, security operations, security configuration, secure software development lifecycle, or identity and access management.

You will also have knowledge of global artificial intelligence and technology risk frameworks, including the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act, the National Institute of Standards and Technology Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework, the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development Artificial Intelligence Principles, International Organization for Standardization 42001, and cloud security principles.

Where you’ll be based:

Our home office in Finsbury Square, London. We offer hybrid working to our employees, so you can flex between home and the office, with a current requirement to be in the office 2 days per week.

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible for everyone to be at their best.
