Full Job Description

Our Project Development and Finance Practice specializes in advising clients on the legal and financial aspects of large-scale infrastructure and development projects. Our practice provides comprehensive support through all stages of project development, including initial planning, financing, construction and operation. Our team works with clients across various sectors such as energy, transportation, real estate and public infrastructure, offering expertise in structuring and negotiating project agreements, managing regulatory compliance and mitigating risks. We also assist clients in securing funding through various financial instruments and navigating complex financial transactions. By combining deep industry knowledge with a global perspective, our Project Development and Finance Practice helps clients successfully bring projects to fruition, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.

Since our arrival in Australia in 2016, our Australian practice has grown to 37 partners and 95+ lawyers across Sydney and Melbourne. Our teams work with clients in every state of Australia, across the Asia-Pacific region and around the globe on all aspects of the energy, infrastructure, power (including renewable energy) mining & metals sectors, and on high-profile public market and private equity M&A transactions.

Our Projects team has a worldwide reputation in the Australian and Asia-Pacific region for advising both government and private sector clients on some of the most complex infrastructure projects in the market. You will work with partners across the practice on a mix of both Australian and offshore projects and construction deals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts related to energy and infrastructure projects, including construction contracts, procurement agreements, and offtake agreements.

  • Support the management and coordination of legal aspects of energy and infrastructure projects, including timelines, deliverables, and client engagement

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team, to ensure cohesive and comprehensive legal support for our clients.

  • Maintain regular communication with clients, updating them on project status, addressing queries or concerns.

  • Execute multiple work streams and deliver flawless work within short timeframes, using excellent drafting skills and attention to detail

Skills and experience required:

  • Australian qualified

  • PQE 2-4

  • Experience in major projects, energy or infrastructure, particularly in the transport, power, and/or renewables sector.

  • Experience advising consortiums, financiers, equity investors and contractors tendering for major projects.

  • Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills

  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail

  • Strong time management skills, ability to stay calm under pressure when juggling multiple projects.

  • Strong professional presence and client focus

  • Team player and enjoys working as a part of a team
