Full Job Description

Our Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Practice specializes in providing strategic legal counsel to clients facing financial distress, insolvency or bankruptcy. We assist creditors, debtors, and other stakeholders in navigating complex restructuring and insolvency proceedings. Our team has expertise in developing and implementing restructuring plans, negotiating with creditors and managing litigation related to distressed assets. We guide clients through chapter 11 proceedings, out-of-court restructurings and cross-border insolvencies, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. By leveraging our deep understanding of financial and legal frameworks, we help clients achieve optimal outcomes in challenging financial situations, preserving value and facilitating recovery.

We collaborate across practices such as M&A, Debt Finance and Commercial Litigation ensuring comprehensive support for our clients. The Australia Financial Insolvency and Restructuring team is nationally recognised and works on some of the largest and most complex restructuring and insolvency matters in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Transactional and advisory work involvement in commercial discussions, negotiation, and documentation of restructuring transactions.

  • Supports advising a wide range of clients including (i) on the creditor/investor side, private credit funds and alternate lenders; (ii) on the debtor side, large multinational corporates; and (iii) insolvency practitioner accountants on formal insolvencies and restructurings.

  • Drafting of legal documents such as deeds of company arrangement, share and asset sale agreements and other documents supplementary to a sale process under supervision of more senior lawyers.

  • Client facing, working as a part of a team to support delivering to clients.

  • Conducting legal research for a wide range of matters.

  • Supports day-to-day communication with clients, gathering information and responding to queries.

Skills and experience required:

  • Admission in Australia

  • PQE 2-4

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn

  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail

  • Strong time management skills, ability to stay calm under pressure when juggling multiple projects.

  • Outstanding communication skills

  • Strong professional presence and client focus

  • Team player and enjoys working as a part of a team.
