We are a collaborative, driven, and editorially rigorous team that values original thinking, deep sourcing, and the kind of exclusive analysis that genuinely moves markets and informs decision-makers at the highest levels of the global chemical and energy industries.

Responsibilities and Impact:

**Break and develop original news stories on chemical, petrochemical, energy, and feedstock markets across China, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia, delivering timely, accurate, and market-moving journalism to Chemical Week's global professional readership on a daily basis.

**Conduct high-level interviews with senior industry executives, policymakers, trade bodies, and market analysts across the Asia-Pacific region, leveraging fluent Mandarin language skills to access primary sources and exclusive intelligence unavailable to English-only reporters.

**Produce both short-form breaking news and long-form analytical features, interpreting complex industry and market data to provide the kind of deep, exclusive analysis that Chemical Week's paid subscribers rely on to inform procurement, investment, and strategic decisions across global supply chains.

**Build and maintain a robust regional source network across China and the broader Asia-Pacific chemical and petrochemical ecosystem spanning producers, traders, end-users, logistics providers, and regulators to ensure Chemical Week maintains a competitive intelligence edge in one of the world's most dynamic and strategically important chemical markets.

**Contribute to multi-platform editorial output, including occasional podcast appearances and participation in editorial events, bringing the Asia chemical story to life for a sophisticated global audience and enhancing Chemical Week's brand authority in the region.

**Represent Chemical Week at key industry conferences and events across Asia and internationally, providing live editorial coverage, conducting on-the-ground interviews, and identifying emerging story leads with occasional international travel forming part of the role.

Basic Required Qualifications:

**Fluency in Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken) is essential, with the ability to conduct interviews, read industry documentation, and interpret official Chinese-language sources to a professional journalistic standard.

**Proven newswriting experience in a professional journalism, financial media, or specialist trade publication environment, with a demonstrable track record of breaking news and producing high-quality analytical content under daily deadline pressure.

**Strong understanding of chemical, petrochemical, energy, or feedstock markets or a demonstrable ability to rapidly acquire deep sector knowledge with the intellectual curiosity to interpret complex market data and translate it into compelling, accessible editorial for a professional audience.

**Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, Economics, or a related discipline; or equivalent professional experience in lieu of formal qualifications.

-Key Soft Skills:

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin, with the ability to craft clear, authoritative, and engaging journalism for a highly knowledgeable global readership.

- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the confidence and professionalism to engage C-suite executives, government officials, and senior market participants as primary sources.

- Self-motivated and highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple story threads simultaneously, prioritise breaking news, and consistently deliver to deadline in a fast-paced, globally distributed editorial environment.

- Collaborative team player who can work effectively across time zones with editorial colleagues in Asia, Europe, and the Americas, contributing constructively to editorial planning and cross-platform initiatives.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

**Prior experience covering Asian chemical, petrochemical, or energy markets particularly China with an established network of industry contacts in the region that can be leveraged from day one.

**Experience with data-driven journalism, including the ability to analyse pricing data, trade flow statistics, and supply/demand fundamentals to support and substantiate editorial analysis.

**Familiarity with S&P Global Energy or comparable specialist market intelligence platforms, and an understanding of how pricing benchmarks and market assessments function within the chemical and energy industries.

**Additional Asian language skills** (e.g., Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese, or Korean) would be advantageous given the regional scope of the role.
